DIY LED Mirror Puddle Lights

OK, folks, I managed to replace the stock puddle light bulbs in the mirrors (the ones that face down) with LEDs. I'm no mechanic or gearhead but even I was able to do it. So, the rest of you who might be afraid to try, go ahead and do it.

There's one trick: in contrast to the instructions for other vehicles in the VW lineup, there's no need to take out the mirror motor once the mirror glass is removed. Instead, you need to remove the outer housing (facing the front of the vehicle)—both upper (black on my Sport) and lower (where the light fixture is located). To do that, you need to remove 3 torx screws and loosen 2 clips, remove the upper portion of the outer housing and then the lower. (I don't know how to post images. As soon as I learn how to do it, I'll post pics of the location of the screws and clips).

I hope this helps others out there who want to replace the stock bulbs with LEDs.

I've now done all of them (interior, tail lights , and mirrors) except the reflectors at the bottom of the doors. That'll be my next project.

Thank you - this is a great review, we will post a link on our puddle listing.

We wish you contacted us, those LEDs of ours you used are better for the domes, we have custom LEDs for the puddle that will be brighter:

Thanks
It is possible to replace the puddle light only taking the mirror off and a pair of needle nose pliers. In your top picture you can see the bulb housing.

Thanks. You're probably right. I didn't try it, since other posts got me worried about losing the bulb inside the housing. Now that I know I can take the whole thing apart, I'll try the pliers the next time.
