DIY: Replace front mirror indicator
The change should take about 30mins.

Tools Needed
T10 torx bit
A very thin T10 screw driver OR flexible screw driver T10
Spanner (if your screw driver can’t reach)
Trim tool or Flat head screw driver
Background
After a large stone cracked my mirror indicator I managed to get a replacement at my local dealer for £17. I had a look around on the net for a DIY guide but unable to find one so I decided to have a go anyway instead of paying VW huge amounts of money.

1. Remove the cover of the wing mirror. I used a flat head screwdriver but probably best to use a trim removal tool so not to scratch your car. You just have to move it around until you unclip the outer cover.

2. Once the cover is off you need to remove just two screws to release the indicator. However these screws are not accessible yet. You need to remove the mirror, as the mirror is heated you first need to remove the red (nearest the window) and blue wires. I used electrical tape to cover them just incase they shorted out on the mental arm of the wing mirror.

3. Once the wires have been removed you need to take off the mirror. The mirror is attached by 8 clips, looking from the top there are 2 clips. I used a screwdriver to ease the clips and gently pulled off the mirror. It’s really easy to break so be careful.

4. When off you can remove the casing around the mirror, there are two clips on the back which push through and the case slides off.

5. Now you need to remove the black base of the wing mirror. By releasing the base, the indicator will come away with it. There are 2 screws which are T10 torx – the position of the screws are a right pain, I used a flexible head screwdriver to get to these screws.

6. The screw nearest the window was easy to undo but the other one was tricky. In the end I used a T10 bit with a small spanner to do it.

7. Once both screws had been undone the black base will come away from the wing mirror arm. However there is a cable which you need to detach. Take hold of the plastic connector and wiggle it out.

8. Once the base is off undo the 2 screws connecting the indicator and the base.

9. The final thing to do is to release the catch between the indicator and the base.

Dude, I'm running 2 LCDs at 1280x1024 and this is hurting my eyes.
I feel really bad for people running 1024x768. Can you resize the pics to a more manageable res?

Looks fine to me

OOPS looks like he fixed them
