[GTI 4 RD]

I realize this is a lot to ask, but can anyone post up a DIY guide to installing OEM aspherical mirrors? Alternatively, anyone know of a relevant link, or whether the mirrors themselves come with good instructions? (I looked in the DIY section, but did not see anything).

Too easy, get a needle nose pliers though.
Tilt the mirrors all the way inwards so that you can grab the outer edges.
Then pull gently until the mirror disengages from the swivel base.
Take care with the distance from the housings as there are 2 wires connecting the mirrors to the housings. This is for the heat function.
Use the pliers to unhook the clips from the mirrors.
Connect wires to new mirrors, mine snapped in by hand.
Then center the mirror to the base and press it back in uniformly. You'll hear it click back into the base. Don't be afraid if the base moves around, this will not harm the motor.

Dude, it's way easy, I've done dozens.
Just push the glass in on the car side.
That'll leave enough room to get your finger in there.
Pull the glass out at a slight angle.
Pull off two electrical connectors.
Reverse it and you are done.
Easy as pie..... mmmmmm pie!

Thanks guys! I always get a little nervous when people tell me a certain car repair/installation/maintenance task is easy. I usually end up standing in a pool of radiator fluid with a random assortment of parts scattered on the floor of my garage. But, heck, I'll give this one a try! What's the worse thing that could happen....(famous last words).

...maybe have an assistant nearby incase you can't see or get the electrical connectors off immediately?
They should come off just by grabbing them and wiggling, but the needle nose trick should work if you are careful!

I think the 'blinker' being referred to is the turn signals in the side mirrors.

Up here, in the North lands, we call them Turn Signals.
