Good morning everybody.
Though i could not finish my door handles yesterday i don´t want to miss to make a DIY for you. Befor we begin i recomment not to do this modification if you´re not in to work with your own hands because you have to work very exact, very clean and very concentrated!!!!!!
Please notice i speak about the co-drivers door handle right now. i think you should start there, too. i will post some information about the drivers handle if there are major differences between the steps!!!!
The needed time is about 5 hours i guess. because of the exact work that is afforded.
About the tools you`ll need
- tape
- screwdrivers to remove the doorpanels
- a glue pistol with hot glue
- isolating tape
- a pair of tongs
- a cutter
- a dremel multi tool
http://www.comparestoreprices....0.jpg
- eye protecting glasses
- some of those to connect the cables
http://pics.computerbase.de/le...r.jpg
- or a soldering iron (for the perfect workers)
- and some good drink to calm down your shivering hands
Those are the parts you need:
2x 7L6919063
7L6819773
7L6819774
2x 4B0971832
2x 000979009
(costs about 20 euros right now at a german dealer)
this is the mayor part. you see, it nearly has the same rounding than the handle.
First you have to remove the door panels. Don´t be mad i don´t explain this chapter. there are other DIY about the removing in here.
After this you have to remove the door handle. To to this you have to release the opening wire from the handle and the two srews. now you can remove it from the panel. take a closer look at it and lay the led-holding part on the handle to make sure where you need to gut. take i look at this pic please. i cutted there:
I draw it with the ^^ cutter beacuse a pen is way to thick to draw!
Now surround the area with some tape so you can see where to cut every time!!
Take a drink, smoke some cigarette and then it will start.
FROM NOW ON YOU NEED TO BE 100percent concentrated or the door handle @ 30 euros is rubbish. And please put your protecting glasses on. Hot plastic hurts like hell in the eye!
Take your dremel tool and cut a hole in the middle of the area. Now move very careful outside and try to be very close to the tape but don´t hit it. after doing this you maybe think "oh my goodness i failed" but it´s not. please take you cutter and straighten the edges and the lines a little. then try to clip in the led carrying part. i can´t imagine it will fit at the first time. so please go on with the following steps:
- the led carrying part has a small hump where the led is clipped in. take a look where it will lay on the handle and try to make a small bead in there (marked with read circle in the pic) to get both parts as close together as they can be....
THEN
- try to clip
- use the cutter
- try to clip
- use the cutter
- try to clip
-user the cutter
- have some drink
- try to clip
.....
Seriously it will work but its freaking sick to do it. you´ll have to archieve the most best result.
If it fits, and you are satisfied with your work take your hot glue and glue it on the grip carefully. make sure it´s hard until you touch it and make sure you don´t cover the backside of the area that will shine in the handle after finishing.
If you now clip in the led you will see that the led-part is way to big to fit in the doorpanel because it will hit the door body. you´ll now have to remove the plastic from this piece very carefully so you don´t hit the wires where tha cable is clicked on later. Take your dremel for that.
Take a drink
Smoke a cigarette because now you will maybe have some luck or not.
Now take the two cables and cover two pins with a small layer of isolation tape and just plug them onto the two hopely not hurted pins you removed the plastic from!
. take the handle to the car and take the doorpanel to the car. now thread the cables from the hole to the window opener and try to put the door handle back to place as carefully you can be. It maybe don´t fits, so i took the dremel and cutted some pieces out of the doorpanel. cutted, tried, cutted, tried etc..... careful!
Anytime it will fit and the handle wont clip out when you put the panel back into place. Hang the opening wire in, put the two screws back and now you can connect the cables to the window-opening switch. there are three cables: purble, grey and brown. you´ll need grey and brown. i don´t know what´s + and - so test it. So you know which cable to connect with the switch´s cables either use your soldering iron of the "thief-clips" i posted ^^. Make your the led is burning and there is no loose contact. Put the door panel back to place and be happy
There will remain ca 14centimeters of the cable. you can use those 14cms of cable to connect the drivers led with the door-closing-switch-cables that are 10cms away from the door handle.
This should be the result:
As i already told. i did not modify the drivers handle yet. i will post some information about that these days. ::
GOOD LUCK http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
