Next year I need to ditch the tricycle of a spare wheel and make room for 17x8 spare.

is the sapre and jack in there? yes. But only because I have no place to put it (livin in a dorm).
I had a flat and I called AAA before I would put the donut on.

i have a full size spare...jack,all sorts of tools.....i dont know about anyone else...but half the places that i drive i can get into some trouble.. especially in the mountains at 2 in the morning with not another soul for miles.....imagine if i didnt have my spare

In the mountains at 2Am? I am going to nickname you Scar, the lion who hangs out in the Canyons and such. Funny thing, I was watching TV and saw the word "Canyon" and started laughing, wierd.

the wheel well will fit a 205-40-17. the diameter of the spare and the stock wheels are teh same (or very close to being the same), either wheel will fit in the hole, but only the spare will sit flush with teh trunk floor while teh 205-40-17 or stock wheel will stick up since its wider.

I don't think it is as much "safety and security" as just common sense and practicality.
I mean, if your dub isn't your daily, well then, you probably don't need a spare all the time. But if this is your form of transport to work/school/other places, and you don't have a spare....well....SOL

I put the spare on when I had one of my rims fixed, and it sat so low in the front non-drivers wheel well that I could not drive the car...I mean it was practically tucking lugnut. I though it was supposed to be the same diameter as the stock tire, although it seems it was a bit low on air. I didn't even use the car, just scraped it into my driveway and borrowed the Vanagon for a few days from my Dad...

my mkII jetta was dropped aboot 4" in front. i had a flat one day and threw the spare on

i was running the 'big bumpers' at the time. and the lip was touching the pavement...

you guys are lucky your fronts were flat...
shoulda seen me, i unfortunately had a flat in the back driver's side... was tucking MORE in the back than what it is now... and then when i put the stock on the next day, it looked like i was some dork fool that thought i had a rear-wheel drive jetta and just went to the drag-strip
