i am currently considering a '74 Vette. does anyone know how difficult/costly it is to maintain such a vehicle?

The engine/trans are standard GM parts. they are well built and should serve you well.
Look for signs of abuse since it's a sports car. Blowing/burning oil, etc, standard used car stuff.

Look for rust in the frame rails under the rocker panels, that's where these tend to rust out the worst.

the 70s 'Vettes were beautiful, but underpowerd because of all of the emissions restrictions of that era.
I like the way "emissions restrictions" rolls off the toungue.
