Do you remove your antenna before entering an automatic carwash?

Just wondering. My 2002 1.8T GTi is on order and I want to take care of it when it arrives. Don't tell me to wash it by hand. I live in Canada for God's sake. The winter crap on cars requires "industrial" cleaning up here.

don't wash it by hand unless you want to get pneumonia. I would reccomend a good set of fleece lined waterproff gloves, a good hat, snowboarding jacket, and a cheap high pressure car wash. Take it from me, getting pneumonia from washing your car is the biggest dissapointment. I hate getting that and i do toooo often. grrr.

from my experience Auto Car wash Sucks... they don't clean well at all...
but if you don't wanna get wet... yes, You've to either take it off yourself (better) or remind those ppl at the car wash to take it down

I never go to the auto car wash because quite often they scratch up the car.
Here is what you do to not get pneumonia.
1. Bundle up
2. Get a bucket , put car wash in , fill with hot water.
3. Hose off car.
4. Put on gloves
5. Put Rubber gloves over other gloves
6. Now wash your car

This is how I wash my car in the winter. Oh and if I dont have time, I bring my car to a place that washes it by hand. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Stick to the "touchless" car washes for the winter, never go through anything else. you wont have a problem with your antenna. Don't ya just love CND winters!

Cheers!

How do those touchless washes perform??? It's really dropped in temperature here the last couple of days. Looks like it is gonna be one of the colder winters here in Vancouver. Don't have to do the antenna thing at a touchless right? Thanks.

honestly i never used the touchless so i dont know about the antenna. sorry. but its got to be better than the one that actually brushes against your paint at a high velocity! (you could remove antenna just to be on the safe side tho)
i usually use the do-it-yourself one with the spray gun. but its not as cold as vancouver here either...

i hate to admit, i took my car through a touchless once. it's basically high pressure water shooting at you from all directions. i didn't take off my antenna, but i wish i did cause at the end of it, they have this HUGE fan thing that pretty much hovers 5-10 cm over your car. it uses the air it blows to keep it up, so you have to drive really slow so you won't slam into it. but my antenna isn't large enough to create a draft for that HUGE fan to raise over it, so when i got near the end i hear a PTWANG...but my antenna was ok...car wasn't all that clean, but it's better than the freezing cold...
(i went to the touchless esso at kingsway and willingdon, right accross from crystal mall)

Only brought my car through car wash twice in 2.5 years....
REASON = I was traveling and had 3.5 million bugs on my front end / windshield.
Aside from that only hand washed / waxed by me
