I have a simple problem that has turned out to be a real headache. I do not know how to work my rainsening winshield wipers. Does anyone know how to get them to work? I following the 2 sentence explaination in the manaul and I can't figure it out. Can anyone help?

Lever 3 notch up = ultra fast
Lever 2 notch up = fast
Lever 1 notch up = rain sensor mode (As you dial the switch to the right, wipers wipe more for the given rain)
Lever Original Position = nothing
Lever pushed down for a moment = wipers move once
Lever pulled = windshield washer
Lever pushed 1 notch = rear window wiper activated
Lever pushed past the notch = rear window washer

It does wipe unless I move it. It was raining today pretty hard and they were not wiping. I had it on notch 1. The only time it wiped was when I moved the top switch side to side. Is there something wrong. It's 2002 VR6 and I just it 2000 miles.

Volkswagen has had rain-sensing wipers for years, they're easy to operate. Here's how I do it:
1. Drive normally
2. If I sense rain on the windshield, I skip directly to step 3
3. Engage wipers at appropriate speed
Oh, I'm just so goddamned funny

This just amused me that this bit of techno-wizardry would cause you grief when a team of 3 engineers probably spent 10,000 man-hours trying to make it as user-friendly as possible.
p.s. it sounds like your rain-sensing wipers are anything but. They don't seem to know it's raining. Did you try yelling at them? Is the sensor area clean?

Mine works perfect.
Last Sunday when I drove back from SF to LA, set it notch 1.
It deals the heavy rain, misty rain, no rain, properly.
All the new gudgets: seat heaters, climate control, rain sensor, they are great for long trip. I love'em

It loses its settings everytime you restart the car so you need to move the Lever back to the original positon and then back to notch 1 to reactivate rain sensing mode.

Are you using rainx?
Do you have something blocking the sensor like a windshield banner?

NO, it just doesnt do what it suppose to. I put it to the 1 postion and choose how fast. The only time it move is if I move the side switch.
So is it not working Properly. Where is the sensor located? http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Sensor is embedded in the windshield where the rear view mirror is attached.
I found this out when I had my windshield replaced when a blown tire from 18 wheeler cracked mine. The car needs a special one which is expensive ($500+) and only available through the dealers.

OK. I may just bring it back to the dealer. I only have had the car for a month and i have about 2000k miles on it.
