Re: Does check engine light come on after installing a BOV? (GTeyeVR6)

this is what they say.........
"There is no point. He would still only be able to run
in DV mode, therefore he couldn't have the loud
blow-off sound. If he ran it with the blow off it
would trigger a check engine light. VW dropped the
ball when they designed the DV before the maff sensor
for that engine."

Re: Does check engine light come on after installing a BOV? (TheTruthHurts)

"VWs stock diverter has some problems; its rubber valve tears leading to loss of boost and poor driveability. By replacing the diverter with an aftermarket piece that uses a metal piston, the problem is solved. The Bailey uses a Delrin piston, not brass. Delrin shows very little wear, as compared to a brass piston. This style of diverter is not the Blow Off Valve (BOV) type that releases excess boost into the atmosphere giving off an awesome p000000fft sound!! The 1.8t engine is NOT setup for BOVs, the reason is that the BOV is located after the mass airflow sensor (MAS) and the BOV is letting out air without the MAS reading it creating a rich mixture. "

Get the HKS kit from ecstuning. The BOV will work just fine. Most people don't know what they are talking about, because they don't have one. My brother had a Turbo XS BOV on his Audi 225 TTR, and it ran perfectly. No CEL, no codes were thrown. I just ordered the HKS kit myself, and we will be test fitting it on my brothers TT to see if it will clear the firewall. I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but BOV's do work.

Re: Does check engine light come on after installing a BOV? (97GT)

Sometimes a true BOV might not cause a MIL to come on, but there are stored DTCs in the ECU. We have a solution for this. It's called a Hybrid BOV. It diverts, and blows-off at the same time. Confused? See it here.

If you just want a standard diverter valve, we offer this.

This is for my roomates 2002 1.8T Jetta

Alright I installed the Turbo XS BOV last week, great piece. Now keep in mind when refering to a BOV sometimes it is refering to one that releases to atmosphere, in that case the CEL may go on, but if it does not go to atmosphere then the CEL will not come on.

Sure there is...doing an engine mod that has no performance gains, and actually may(probably) DECREASE performance(reliabilty), for "sound"....
is....

There is a gain. When my brother had his Turbo XS BOV, it held more boost down lower in the rpm's, and pulled harder. The guy who he sold his BOV noticed the same thing. So, there is nothing ghetto about it.

So you held more boost, but were shortening the life of the turbo and possibly the engine. No gain. Besides, everyone knows the stock BPV is weak...Just replace the stock BPV with a forge/bailey/TT and you get the same gain without the negatives...

TurboXS Type H-RFL on my 2001 GTI 1.8T.

edit: BTW, i DO have a CEL, but its on for various reasons, like no cat, BOV, etc...

Wrong! His Turbo XS BOV held more boost then his Bailey DV. It wasn't shortening the life of the turbo, because he wasn't running rich, no CEL, no codes.

I have no idea where you negatives are coming from. The TurboXS BOV actually extends the life of the turbo the stock diverter and the audi diverter are the same item. The aftermarket ones alleviate the pressure on the turbo that the stock one fails to do with higher boost. So technically the Turbo XS BOV (actually a diverter) assists in the life of the turbo.

Ha!!!! By definition of of how the MAF is setup in the 1.8t he was running rich...whether or not you throw a code means jack...Holding more boost also could be a bad sign the the BOV is too strong, thus again harming the turbo in the long run. There is no reason for a BOV in this engine. Period.

When I switched from a Forge DV to the HKS SSQV, I actually noticed performance gains too.
A) No more boost surges.
B) Valve reacts much quicker.
C) Valve does not stick.
D) Sounds cool.
