Autotech buys all the shifter from Audi to paint them black, put autotech on them and sell them for more $. If you have tried to buy the Audi TT short shifter you have probably been told it is on back order. Even parts4vw is on back order. This really sucks. I say we all boycott autotech for doing this and not buy their shifter. All that they did to it was paint it black and but their logo on it. This is what a sales rep told me a week ago.

autotech took the time to find out what part worked, and branded it as an autotech part, which they support and warranty. try returning a tt shifter to the vw dealer or getting any support on it when you have an issue...
that's what you're paying for.

agreed. You can't return an Audi part once you've purchased it! But Autotech on the other hand will gladly take it back if you don't want it.

Did you try parts.com? I ordered mine last Thursday and it came on Monday. Maybe I got lucky.

Yea i ordered it a week or so ago and it still has not come. Also once you install it and use it no company will take it back. it just is weird that audi cant even get the part becasue autotech bought all of them.

I like my Autotech ss. Even if it is rebadged OEM part. It does what it advertises and the fact that it is OEM means I don't have to worry about any engineering problems. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

i love that it is oem too. but the fact you cant get it from anywere because it is all on back order.

What proof do you have of this? What an ignorant statement. How do you know Audi didn't make a special run of them for Autotech, or that Audi is making a large run of TT's? Have you ever heard of value creating activities? It's one of the premises of capitalism -- the FIRST thing you learn in business school. That's ANY companies do -- they take materials and process them into a product that ultimately costs more than it cost them to buy. That's how businesses survive. OF COURSE they are going to sell them more expensively than Audi does -- that is how a business works. Furthermore, how many of these shifter could autotech have possibly bought? It's not like there are 50,000 people out there putting short shifters in their cars. On the contrary, Audi produces THOUSANDS of TT's. The blame is on Audi for not having the shifters(for whatever reasons they may have), not Autotech.

First off I got the info from parts4vw that the reason they are out of stock because audi's warehouse is out because autotech baught them all up. Also the audi dealer here in phoenix is out for the same reason from what the parts manager told me. there is my proof!

He has a point.... if he wants the one from Audi. That's his biz... any reseller of a current market product that eats up Audi's parts quota for this period is only going to have an advantage for a short while. Audi, and any other auto manufacture, produces parts at the calculated rate equal to normal demand for servicing etc... Autotech may have grabbed up what was on hand... but it will be replaced. and soon too. I would bet that Autotech would have ordered more from Audi through the usual channels... and therefore Audi would produce it's normal quota with additional units to meet orders. Just remember, Audi/VW makes very little revenue when selling cars... they build empires on selling parts.
If Autotech wants to put their stamp on it and charge a few bux for that plus ensuring its the right part... then that's up to them, on the other hand, they would get the part at a discount... and like ANY OTHER COMPEATING BUSINESS ... they should produce them at a discount. When was the last time you paid more for a Fram oil filter in relation to a VAG filter? ever try buying a 17" wheel right from VW? .. you will be looking up tirerack.com real fast. Why? that's the nature of the automotive business... if third party vendors didn't make their products cheaper than OEM... there wouldn't be any third party vendors would there?
Just wait.... be patient, they will show up.
