Or does the needle move up and down a little bit? Sometimes mine swings up an down, barely noticible. When the engine is cold it swings more...within about one needle's width. I'm asking because the 2 other cars in my family (V6's) idles so smoothly that the tach needle doesn't move at all as if it's stuck there regardless of engine temp. Any ideas?

i'm driving a 01 1.8T and it does the same thing.
