Some of you may have been following the dilema of Dbj and the recent drag strip accident of the dogbone snapping in half. Well, the tech working on my car is really good and was paying attention because he found a stronger VW dogbone... from an automatic!
I still havent gotten the bill from the replacement or install, but I am sure its going to be the same as or similar in price to the 5 spd dogbone.
This is just an Fyi for ya'll... if you ever break one, replace it with the automatic version.

Re: Dogbone upgrade (gintaras)

As I understand from the tech, yes, it does.
The main differences (this is from the vw tech, who is quite sharp) is that the Auto version of this is 'beefier' in construction. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Dogbone upgrade (Jman5000)

$60 more? ouch.
I havent picked it up yet... waiting for the bill.

I had the stock bushings in... just assuming that if I had the urethane bushings that the dogbone might not have broken... less wheel hop, less stress on the dog bone.

Thier systems don't tell them much, but the auto one is $60 more.
I think we need that EKTA thing...won't that let us see the part?

Just asking, $60 more than what ?

Than the manual one...
And that's walk-up butt-ream parts counter pricing.
I went to the dealer for something else, and I saw the exploded diagram...the section lists one dogbone pic (like we're used to) but 2 parts. So you can't see it on EKTA, or ETKA, or whatever it is.
