Re: Doing an ABA swap, whats the best place to get a Dizzy gear? (eurotrashrabbit)
yeah, have fun with the seal on the shaft if you switch out the shaft.... worst part about rebuilding a vw motor... other than it breaking loose from your hoist and falling on you crushing your pelvis...
Re: Doing an ABA swap, whats the best place to get a Dizzy gear? (deathhare)
I'm rebuilding the whole thing, so its not biggie. When you say modified, I'm assuming that you machined down the gear on the shaft, is that correct? Any problems with breakage or failure?

The gear isn't modified, the shaft is narrowed, the stock 1.8L shaft is too fat, the 2.0L connecting rod with the longer crank throw wouldn't clear the intermediate shaft. Installing a modified 1.8L intermediate shaft, allows you use your 1.8L dizzy un-modified all you'd need would be an adapter ring.

I do this on all 2.0l swaps and have not had one fail yet TT told me the demensions 5.5mm, I have 10k on mine and the other 2.0s have about 15k I have done no problems at all
