dv=diverter valve, bov=blowoff valve, cai=cold air intake, maf=mass air flow (sensor), to name a few...

Don't trip, we've all be there before, took me awhile to get it also, there are still some out there that I have no clue of. Thats AOL IM chat for ya.....

Let's not forget AWD, AWW, AWP - engine codes for the 1.8Ts on Golf/Jetta in North America
Re: don't know what all the abbreaviations mean (Gambit)

dbw = drive by wire
egt = exhaust gas temperature
Re: don't know what all the abbreaviations mean (John A)

AFR...air fuel ratio.
dp...down pipe
cb....cat back exhaust
Re: don't know what all the abbreaviations mean (Gambit)

Funny thing is.. DV anywhere but in this forum seems to mean "Dump Valve". Which here could refer to either of the type of valves you guys go on about. IE Blow Off valve or Diverter Valve. Here in the UK (And probably Europe too, maybe more), a DV (Dump Valve) that diverts the air back into the intake, is called a recirculating Dump Valve. So it gets even more confusing!
But I gotta say, I think peeps in this forum get a bit carried away with abreviating everything too much. It makes it incredibly difficult for new comers to make any sense out of this place..
Re: don't know what all the abbreaviations mean (BeetleBrit)

carried away? When you're having a discussion, usually you want to get feedback from people who know what they are talking about...so using abbreviations only makes sense. Plus, it's a helluva lot quicker to type CAI rather than cold air intake. And all humans are naturally lazy, so typing dp, map, maf, cai, bov, ss, only becomes natural.
It's a matter of getting used to it.
In addition, sometimes it's not too difficult to figure it out what an abbreviation means. This worked much better when the search feature was enabled, but if you search for "dv" you'll instantly discover what it stands for.
I do see your point, as I remember asking people "what's a dv" or "what's a maf" and being confused half the time. But the more threads I read, the more acronyms I learned and now use.
It's all about surfing vwvortex...eventually you'll learn what everything means! (and a lot of other useless info along the way!)

edit: welcome to vwvortex!

FMIC = Front Mount InterCooler
SMIC = Side Mount InterCooler
Good thread guys, keep it up. Maybe someone less lazy than myself could put all these on a website somewhere and it could be linked to in my sig.
