car's a week old and the damned 'door open' light keeps staying on. i've checked and rechecked both doors and hatch. all are closed. i also don't get the honk from the alarm when i lock all the doors with the keyring.

Re: 'door open' light won't turn off in my gti (screwball)

i had the same problem, something is wrong withe the rear hatch on mine...it won't freaking close when i push the lock button on the remote, they said it was a bad motor latch on the back door latch. Take it into the dealer, and they will fix the honk on your remote. And I had the car one day. I am still waiting on the part. Seems to be backed order. They have half of the mechanism waiting on the motor or something.

Re: 'door open' light won't turn off in my gti (landrumdh)

seems the locking mechanism on the trunk is all wet (it rained today) and the weatherstripping isn't fuctioning. i guess that is shorting out the sensor. my alarm went off at work today briefly and i think this was the cause. i've had the car a week... what a pisser.

Re: 'door open' light won't turn off in my gti (screwball)

I have the exact same problem. A couple days ago I got home and my alarm kept going off by itself. . . I couldn't figure out why so I went out and re-shut my doors and my hatch. When I went to lock the door with the remote, the horn wouldn't honk but the lights flashed (as it does if a door/hatch isn't shut all the way). I checked the doors/hatch again and even started the car for a minute (door ajar light wasn't on). The horn still didn't honk. . I just left it alone and went out of town for 2 days. I came back and when I started my car the door ajar light wouldn't shut off. I slammed the $hit out of the doors/hatch and the light still wouldn't go off. I was concerned that the alarm wasn't arming so I sat in the car while I locked it with the remote. When I opened the door, the alarm went off so I know the alarm is arming, but it still thinks a door is open..
I've had my GTI since last November and this will be the second problem I've had. First one (which took two trips to the service for the same problem before it was fixed) was a bad motherboard for one of the tail light assemblies and it kept shorting the driver's side headlight and tailight. Nevermind the day when my stereo wouldn't turn on (was fixed after I checked all the fuses even tho none were blown).
Not a happy camper

Re: 'door open' light won't turn off in my gti (cam427)

I retract my former statement.
After I went out and tried to re-close all doors and hatch the light went off and chirp returned.
I theorize that I opened hatch when fumling for window switch.
VWVortex makes me paranoid

I feel much better!
