I "raced" a buddy the other day and won. We really didn't have a set distance and road was perfectly straight, so the race was over when my buddy apparently hit his limiter at 172km/h (I kept going - don't know how fast I was going). Afterwards he said that he was surprised that he "kept up with me"... I tried to explain that even though my car is capable of running the 1/4 mile 0.5s quicker than his (i was using published numbers for this example), visually it isn't that much... Apparently I should have been car lengths ahead...
From what I remembered, the closest he got was at my door jam... I lead the entire race...I was in third hitting 6000 when I was about to shift. I shifted into forth and felt the car just starting to pull then I saw him just die in my side view mirror (limiter I guess)...
I guess my question is whether my analysis is correct in regards to time differences and visual differences... How much is 1s difference?
You are right. Just think of a 13 sec car and a 11 sec car. 13 is fast but 11 is OMG. 0.5 is quicker yes (if you got that out of text, must realize, different conditions, motor wear, etc....) How was your launch? What kinda car did he have?
Hey Euro Flavor...can you explain to me why on Club Si you post how you raced this car and that car on the street, yet you come into the Vortex and bother people about it here...whats the difference? afraid you wont be accepted on the Vortex if you street race? Club Si boys think you're ok though huh...man I dunno about you.

I guess I should clarify a few things...
1) I LEAD the entire race and won.
2) My launch was terrible (I spun my tires right through the intersection), I let it out at 3500-4000 and I had my snows on (which have no tread what so ever)... I know that was DUMB!!!
3) The other guy had (dare I say it)... new Z24...
4) While in third, I kind of lost him (he was in my blind spot) and let off the gas a tad...I figured it was over...but then I saw him, planted it again...
Its just that I hate the ignorance that exists with these type of guys. Just because you have 20-30 horses more than them doesn't mean you'll be MILES ahead as they think. They don't consider things like your luanch and overall weight of the vehicle...All they know is HP...
I hate that, too. Its all the skill of the driver. I was giving advice to somebody with a VR6 on launches and the first three times I would almost be up front till he hit third then good bye me (I have a 2.0) now I told him with his launch he should be whooping my arse. At the end of the night three races later, we launched on five and he did a astounding launch and put me three car lengths behind just in first and second, then four car, five car, etc.. through the gears. Its all in the driver. I look at text stats dont matter, its all driver. People think I have more horsepower I win.
ok, so how do i launch my VR6 correctly? My friend in a Prelude gets a jump every time.. I just thought its because of his short gear ratios... But if there is a way to launch better, please tell me! (dump the clutch, or ease it? what rpm's?)
well my friend has a cam, when ever he launched, he would dump the clutch and it would bog down, that is where I gained. His cam doesnt kick in till 3k when ever he dumped the clutch it would fall back down to 2.5, 3 I couldnt remember. The one run where he walked me he eased off the clutch at 5000 (it was loud couldnt hear him count) got a good momentum going to where he popped the clutch he was still in the higher power band making his jetta scream down the straight. Ease off the clutch till you know when ever you pop it, you will still be in the high RPMs where you wanna be, dont squeel the tires at first, loose traction-loose ground.
You gotta remember the VTEC engines need to do the same, if you can get infront of him before he hits that (which if he is a good launcher he would launch in it) you can get a good enough jump. Try to shift before the flat spot, fuel cut off ofcourse. Watch him shift, I was racing a EX one time we sat still but I saw him shift into third early, so I left it in second till I got infront then I had the advantage.
also, if you know you are going to go race him. Wait till you have a quarter or less of gas=less weight. You can always power shift too. You know when you launch, pop the clutch you feel the car pick up after 3k rpms? I cant remember but that is where most of your hp lays. Stay above 3k. Anybody else wanna help? Tires are good too, bald=no traction. Let some air out of our tires too. These are just lil tid bits. You know your car. Tame that beast. Only you will know how to launch it. Practice make perfect, stop light practices. "get ready, get ready, green GO" sorry for so many post Im babbling!
