This weekend, in the pouring rain, my B4 started clunking on accel/deceleration. By the next day it had almost entirely disappeared.
The clunk is a distinct sound/feel that comes up from the passenger footwell area.
My guess is I have a motor mount going and the rain-soaking lubricated the rubber enough to allow play which caused the clunking. When the rubber dried out the clunk 98% disappeared (gotta really hammer on the throttle to get it now).
A parkinglot inspection reveals little except that the front motor-mount appears to have already been replaced (clean OEM part). I can't see the right-rear mount since its covered by some sort of a heatshield (those inscrutible German engineers).
Anybody else have experience w/ this-- is this the logical place I should be looking?
Also, if anyone has their Bentley handy, can you post the torque specs for the motor mounts and trans mount? Saturday I'll retorque everything I can reach.
But by some glorious chance are those VW 10/100,000 warranties transferable? If so, what do I need to do? This time of year I'd be thrilled to have VW tackle this one.
Thanx as always!

(On a very cool, albeit unrelated note, my CE light extinguished itself last night. Whenever I buy a car the first thing I do is add a bottle of iso-dry gas and big bottle of Techron. Call it superstition, but I wonder if that elixir was what it needed.)

Re: Driveline Clunk-o-rama (WannaCorrado)

WannaCorrado is correct but bear in mind that it is sometime better not to ask the question. Some dealerships will take a vehicle in an not look too deaply into the original owner/warranty stuff.
If needed, I'd consider taking it in and assuming it's under warranty.

Ah, you clever clever bas****. I like how you think...
The car has 74k so I'm well beyond transfer warranty.
So what's the key to giving myself that cool-original-owner air? A confidant strut? A wedding band? A baby seat? A secret handshake? I have none of the above. Besides, won't their computer pull up the car's history?
Any suggestions up-to-and-including the diabolical are appreciated.

Re: Driveline Clunk-o-rama (WannaCorrado)

It can work. I know of two occasions to include my own. I didn't have a diabolical scheme. I just took it in, stated the problem, they say yeah that's a warranty item (no computer checks in my case) and the work was done.
I'm not saying it will work for everyone. Maybe my small-town dealer is not as efficient as others. I would give it a try though. Worst that could happen is for them to say no.

I'm not saying you shouldn't try though! Definitely give it a shot! it would be GREAT if they did it for you!
