Sorry, its not really VW related, but i'd rather not have her paying a dealer if its something easy to fix...
I drove her 96(?) Cavalier today (over 100K on the clock), because she has been complaining to me about the brakes clunking. It sometimes makes a "CLUNK" sound when you first step on the brake pedal, coming from the rear (drums). It is especially loud if you are in reverse and step on the brakes.
It almost sounds similar to the sound that is made when the parking brake has been on for a long time and its stuck and you start rolling and it gets unstuck, except it does it when you are stopping for a stop sign, etc...
Any help with this problem would be much appreciated.

Re: Drum brake ? for my GF... (VR6 Mk3)

I remember my friend with a Civic had a similar problem. Since it's not Euro, it's going to have wheel studs. Maybe one of them has come loose and is rattling around in the drum. I'm not sure, but a possibility.
It shouldn't be too hard to pull the wheel off and open up the drum. Got a repair manual for it?
