I know I can get one out of a B3 Passat but how easy is it to fit into my GLI 16v??? Does the dual fan setup use two fan motors or only one motor that drives the other fan by a belt??? Is it a straight bolt in??? Will it fit right? Does it offer extra cooling or only is one of those mods that's "cool" to have?

Not sure of the rest but I do know that its belt driven off of one motor.

Re: Dual radiator fan setup... (Dieder)

I got one of these yesterday; it looks like it will fit my GTI so it should also fit a Jetta. Looking at the radiator in the car from the top (hood open), the existing fan enclosure mounts on the right with two brackets and on the left directly to the radiator; the Passat fan mounts directly to the rhs radiator mounts and the brackets need to be transferred to the lhs and connected to different (normally unused) mounting points on the far lhs of the radiator. Only the lower lhs mounting point will fit, the upper fan one is above the upper hose outlet where there isn't a radiator mounting point but I don't think that will matter; it may be possible to drill another mounting hole on the fan frame for the other support bracket. The electrical connector isn't quite the same but is useable; I haven't checked yet if the wiring is the same.
The dual fan will provide more cooling, is lighter than the existing setup and will give more space in the engine bay.

they will fit with some modification onto the stock radiator, the wiring is easy to do, works wonderful on my black gli.

Re: Dual radiator fan setup... (ampedG60)

personally unless u have a vr6 i think this mod is kinda pointless. my car runs about 1/3 of the way up as water temp, i have a low temp thermostat and fan switch in it. i have enough problem gittin to the oil filter on ma 91 gli w/ the oil cooler in the way, a/c and from the underside the power steering lines, adding a dual fan setup that would only cramp the engine bay that much more and to git the temp to drop another 5 degrees, not worth it to me, i would rather just buy a bottle of water wetter for 8 bux

Re: Dual radiator fan setup... (Ted)

Turbo Diesel and ECOdiesel A2s came with the larger dual-fan radiator STOCK. It's actually two sets of fan blades driven by a single motor, via a belt. But the trouble is, these are hard to find and expensive -- you'll also need different coolant hoses; as you can see below, the dual-fan radiator uses a special "T"-connection hose that snakes over the alternator, which is only available at the dealer and costs over $100.

Re: Dual radiator fan setup... (VWestlife)

I beg to differ. Both of my cars ('88 GLI 16V & 92 Jetta 8V) have dual radiator fans from B3 Passats, and neither of them have required any modification(other than the electrical connection) to fit.

Re: Dual radiator fan setup... (Phobia)

how much does a B3 fan setup cost anyways?
someone told me to use a 180 degree stat not the cooler stat I had in there...so i took out the 160 (still have the 160 switches in) but runs hotter than I'd like. plus...the fan motor is making funky noises, so this B3 thing sounds pretty damn cool. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

I have one in my gli, bolted right up,no problems with coolant hoses or fitting problems at all.Even the plug for the motor was the same.

Re: Dual radiator fan setup... (GLI_driver_found)

I put one out of a 16v Passat in my '87 Jetta and it fit fine. The only issue was with the plug for the fan. You need to shave the ridges off the plug on the motor. If you look at the 2 plugs you will see what I mean. 30 seconds and a razor knife will fix it. It is my understanding this is not a problem on 90+ CE2 cars.
And I got mine for $12 at the junkyard.

mine was the same!!!! bolted in no probs, even plugged up no probs, and no problem clearing hoses or anything either, the only thing i ran into was that the relays for the A/C didnt have a place to mount as they did on the shroud of the single set-up
aside from that mine was plug and play!!!

The 160* fan switch wont even let your car get out of the cold start mode unless stopped. HORRIBLE for gas mileage and power as it runs really rich like that. Chack the temp sensor for the cluster...It may be reading funny if you think its too hot.
