Insurance depends on your age and driving record.
Updated turbos cost between $10000-15000. I assume you will be buying a used S4 because the new models will most likely have a NA V8.

I am including brakes, suspension, wheels and tires. I dont think you would want K04s on a stock S4.

Insurance isn't that bad (but then I'm 33, married, no accidents) but it may get worse because of a rash of stolen S4s on the east coast. Also, these cars get wrecked a lot because peeps can't handle them.

A 2.7 S4 in a year or two...it probably won't exist by then.I'm going to try to get one by this feb-march and i know it will be difficult,(is there anything whiter than casablanca for an s4??).

My insurance on my '00 S4 went up 10 bucks a month from my '00 GTI VR6. Its a 4 door, and not classified as a sporty car. Keep in mind I'm 22 with no tickets or accidents on my record in one of the highest cost insurance countys in the US.
As far as the turbo upgrade, you are looking @ 10 grand to do it right with all the supporting parts (hoses, bipipe, downpipes, chip, exhaust, etc). You will want to supplement the upgrade with better brakes, and at minimum better tires on your car. The power is enough to break cheap tires loose even with quattro.

This is a little off-topic, but I see that everybody is talking that Audi is going to put a V8 in the 2004 S4. I was under the impression that they were planning on going with a hopped up version of the W8 that they are going to stick in the Passat. Any info would be appreciated.

The latest rumor is the new S4 will have the 4.2 from the A8. I wouldn't mind if they kept the weight down by making components out of aluminum or the engine out of aluminum. I'm not sure how feasible this is because of the high heat and cost, but the S4 is a porker now. How "enthusiast" will it be weighing well over 4,000 lbs?

If they put the 4.2 Audi V8 then they will have to extend the front of the car like they had to extend the A6 to put that engine in. If they will go the 8 cyl, way they will most likely use the W8, since it would be an easier fit. How about a 2005 RS4 with a cosworth tuned biturbo W8, that definetly sounds more interesting than a 2.9lt biturbo right?

There is a 4.2 A4 under going testing in europe right now, no word on if they had to modify the chassis at all.
