Have a friend deciding between the two and it's pretty close. For the most part, I think the edge goes to the Chevy but I'm curious to see what you guys think.
Comparison Data HERE
Thanks!

I would rather get the new explorer, but since I dont have that option, I'd go for the LTZ.
I've always had a thing for Inline engines...

25hp out of 1.7L less, and out of an Inline-6?
I'll go with the Chevy!

Not even a comparison, the LTZ is great....real quick, looks great (don't get 2 tone paint), lots of toys.
As you can tell, I'm not biased (since I have a Dodge).

Yes, that is certainly true..... but buyers of GM and Chrysler cars usually lean one way or the other (for the most part)- I'm not a Mopar monster.

Trailblazer is better built than Durango, IMO. Also GM really has a thing on building great trucks.

Let's put it this way. I got rear ended by a Durango about a year ago. I was driving my excel then, and you want to know what happened? I drove away from the accident and the durango didn't. Hmm...makes you think eh!

A Trailblazer LTZ in black looks bad-ass. I would probably just get an LT model though; the LTZ comes with 17" wheels that look ugly IMO. http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif

Here's the list I've gathered thus far, in no particular order of importance:
- way more efficient engine with the LTZ (more horsepower and better fuel economy). Supposedly adding dual exhaust will give it another 30hp.
- bigger interior dimensions all around (except for hip)
- discs all around on the LTZ, vs rear drums on R/T
- no option for sunroof on the Durango (minor, but still!)
- LTZ has a brand new body style
all this for less money.

Apple vs hamburger.
CR-V is a soft roader. Durango is a full-size SUV. Honda uses unibody Civic platform, Dodge uses body-on-frame.

Chevy Trailblazer LTZ vs. Dodge Durango R/T
No sure how the Honda CRV came into the conversation

The question I have is this: 1998 Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited, or Trailblazer LTZ? Both tempt me...(actually, I'm waiting to pick up a used Sierra C3 in a few years....)

Damn straight! That's an awesome (spec-wise) engine compared with Dodge and Ford's V8s in the Explorer and Durango. I'm so happy to see that GM finally did something RIGHT! Maybe they can make good cars again. It's only been 50 years or so.

When I read GM had put the 270hp in-line six cylinder engine in the Trailblazer/Envoy, I went and test drove both. I think the Envoy actually has a bit of a better ride...somehow feels smoother, even though I know they share everything. However, I believe you can get an air suspension on the Envoy and I'm not sure if it can be had on the Trailblazer.
The engine feels smooth and strong. I definitely like the looks of the redesigned Trailblazer/Envoy. I was never a fan of the old Blazer looks. I know that for 2001 GM was going with the redesigned body and the better engine, while Ford (Explorer) was going with a redesigned suspension for a much improved ride. I used to like the Explorer better (looks wise). However, I believe the in-line six and enhaced looks make the Trailblazer the definite winner (especially when compared to the bulky Dodge Durango). I don't care how many auto mag editors/writers tout it, I don't know any (adult) who looks forward to navigating the third row seating of the Explorer.

4 valves? DOHC? So quiet that chevy actually included a smartstart™ system to prevent you from re-starting a running motor.

Volkswagens have that too
