The "EGR" light in my pickup is on, and I was wondering what this means. I have read up on EGR valves, and what I've read says that the EGR recirculates gas to keep the engine somewhat cool. It also says that a symptom of a EGR valve stuck open is a rough idle, which I do have. Does anybody know if this is really it, and if so, how hard of a job is it?
Thanks alot.

Re: EGR Light (lazydog108)

Many of the early 80's VW's used an EGR light on the instrument panel to signal a certain service interval. To reset the EGR light, look under the hood and find the end of the speedo cable where it attaches into a small black box on the firewall.
There should be a recessed "reset" button on the front of the black box. Push the button all the way in, and this action should turn off the EGR light. Regards, WWR.

Thanks a lot. I feel kinda stupid for thinking it was the EGR valve now. I'm gonna try to reset it tomorrow morning (it's getting dark), and I'll tell you how it goes. Anyways...thanks again! I
