Engine Cover for 1.8T

My MY03 GTi is an AGU and I believe it's still drive by cable.
I've seen the occasional carbon fibre cover on the MK4 forum. They look pretty nice, but I bet they'd be mucho $$$

I have an AGU with DB cable - but have the 1.8T engine cover - My guess is the late GTIs are now coming out with the 1.8T badge instead of the 20V - Turbo Engine cover.
I know someone else in this forum has a late GTI - wonder if they too have the 1.8T cover too.
IMO - sort of like the 1.8T better...

I have an AGU with DB cable - but have the 1.8T engine cover - My guess is the late GTIs are now coming out with the 1.8T badge instead of the 20V - Turbo Engine cover.
I know someone else in this forum has a late GTI - wonder if they too have the 1.8T cover too.

I have a 2003 GTI and it has the AGU engine with the 1.8T engine cover.

I have a 2003 GTI and it has the AGU engine with the 1.8T engine cover.

Yeah got the car back, good as new. (Better than before, no more rock chips in the bonnet). You guys keep having week night cruses. I don't really have time for that anymore.
I might be able to go the Canberra thing in September but considering I turn 30 the Friday before that weekend I might not make it.

I have the 20V Turbo engine cover but it sits in the garage rather then on the engine. I figure it doesn't do anything anyway and looks like it probably restricts heat from getting out. I mean, how often do you pop the bonnet to admire the engine anyway?
In anycase, i do think the 1.8T cover looks better... the 20V Turbo writing on mine seems to fade with each clean.

the engine cover on a 1.8T is what hold the fire retardant material in case of an engine fire.
in my 2002 A4 it does anyway i'm not sure about other models.
if you take it out you better install some fire retardant material
under the hood if you don't want this to happen to your car.
this is a friend of mine's A4 1.8T and the fire ony started because of
a loose spark plug and the car was always serviced by the dealership.

Pretty sure the engine cover for my 1.8T is good old plastic, there doesn't look to be anything too fire retardent about that to me.

i only know because i took it out one day and
found the engine to look really good without it and then when i put it
on the ground up-side-down i noticed that material that i recognised to be
classic fire retardant. then i looked under the hood and there was nothing,
nothing at all, that is when i understood and decided to put it back on.
but like i said, i cannot be sure that all models are like that.
