Just bought my Jetta and it says this on the sticker:
Transmission: Germany
Engine: Mexico
Final Assembly: Mexico
Did I just buy a car with a mexican engine!!! Are all Jetta GL's this way? I looked at some other cars and some of them said Engine: Germany. I thought the engine was always German. Argh!

Yep...pretty much all of 'em are like this.

What he asked was whether or not others have Jetta 2.0's with engines built in Mexico? I too was under the assumption that all engines were built in Germany.

You people don't understand!!!

READ CAREFULLY!
I don't care where the car was assembled (well, not that much). However, it says ENGINE: Mexico. That's my problem. The engine's are all supposed to be German.

Hey man, the only difference is: The German worker gets more money for the same work. Thats why this cars are made in Mexico. So lets say thanks to Mexico. Thanks to all the workers in Puebla plant.
By the way: Have you ever been in Mexico?

Re: Engine: Mexico !?!?!? (GOLFERO)

as Jman said -- the engine parts are sub-assembled in Germany. Doesn't mean there is a lack of quality. They just ship the parts accross the Atlantic and put 'er together in Mexico.

what do you get when you mate a German transmission to a Mexican engine?
I don't know, what?
who the hell cares, clown-boat!

ps - if you don't like it, return the car... I'm sure they'll love your reason...

Come on

Stop kidding yourselves guys, if that were the case, everybody would buy cheap Korean cars. It DOES make a difference. I paid money for a German car, so I don't want the company fooling me and cutting costs.

Re: Come on (Bayerische)

wow and you think that american cars are made here? you think japanese cars are made in japan? i always get drawn into this argument, and it amazes me that people are ignorant enough to believe that a car built IN GERMANY, to the same specs as those built in Mexico, is somehow better.
In the time over a year that I've been around this forum, i've waited for some concrete evidence that the german built dubs are more reliable, don't suffer from the little MAF and regulator probs, etc. etc. and have still never gotten any evidence.

Re: Come on (jaydub)

my car was built entirely in Germany but I had a window regulator fail. I immediately knew that on the day my car was built, either a Mexican foreman was on the job or it coincided with one of those factory robot exhange programs.

You don't want VW cutting costs? Grow up
The purpose of VW and the McDonalds down the street are the same - to make a profit for the owners (stockholders). It's not there to make a fantastic car for the very rich. It's there to make a profit. If the profit can be increased by assembly in Mexico (or Brazil like my Golf), it would be irresponsible not to do it.
