How can I tell if I have a digifant or CIS or CIS-E
Reason asking is because I was reading another post and a post I put up about a week ago about my nasty idling. They say you can find the ISV unitwhich is probably my problem, on a bracket on the valve cover next to the breather gromet..... is there anything else i can look for to make sure??
I drive an 87 Golf GTi 8v

Re: Engine question. (8vdubber)

The CIS will have the fuel distributor on top of the Air box. I has metal hoses running from there to the injectors seperately. The Digifant will have a fuel rail, and no metal hoses between the Air box and the injectors.

Your Gti has CIS-E. Poor idle could be many things. I start with checking for vacuum leaks. Check hoses ,intake boots, and injector o-rings.

A quick way to check for those vacuum leaks is with a can of carb cleaner. Shoot all the connections with a little and watch/listen for a change in how the engine runs. It will usually run a little faster.
