Re: "EuroVan" now in EUROpe (Cullen)

Cool rear decal (the "Eurovan" surrounded by the stars).
I remember doing a Google search a few weeks ago and found a site from Spain that also referred to the T4 as "Eurovan" too.

25K eu for a TDI panel van - Yikes

It seems like the 'Eurovan' there is a mix between old and new. It has the new dash, but the old shorter nose of the earier t4s.
Still makes me think doing a TDI swap when the old mill gets tired...

Yeah it depends upon the country that link was from Finland, but for instance here accross the bay from Finland in Estonia you can't get the "old" look panel van anymore...though they where running parallel for a while BUS = new and PANELVAN = "old".

From memory, it was only the Caravelle and Multivan versions that were given the new front end, the Transporter (van / chassis cab / window van) versions retained (and still have) the original panels, although they did get the interior mods. I think this was an attempt to try and seperate the "workhorse" commercial vehicles from the "executive" people carriers.
Am I right in saying that you don't get the vans in the States?
And your Eurovan is based on the European Caravelle?
If so this would explain why all of yours have the new front end.
As for prices, after the Eurovan prices were reduced in the States last year, I thought I would compare it with UK prices. I worked out that our cheapest version (caravelle Sedan 8 seats 88bhp TDi) compared well with your cheapest Eurovan @ £ 19997.00 Pounds Sterling. Then I realised that all yours are V6's! Our cheapest V6 is currently the Multivan V6 (204 bhp) which retails for £29803.25 of our british pounds, and the cheapest Caravelle V6 is over 30K
. I could Buy a new Polo with the difference, and still have change!
I was waiting with bated breath for the prices to drop in the UK.
I'm still waiting!
However, in the meantime (it will never happen!) I have ordered a Sharan TDi, which I should get next month. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Correct. We don't get the panel vans at all in the US. We get what appears to be closely related to the Caravelle. We get Eurovan GLS and Eurovan MV models, plus a Camper. Our GLS and MV are similar except the MV (presumably short for "Multivan") has the flip-up table in the center and rear-facing second row seats. The MV also has a "Weekender" option which is the pop-up sleeper top. The Eurovan Camper is a long-wheelbase van converted to a full camper (sink, stove, etc.) by Winnebago here in the US. All of our vehicles in the US are now 24V 201hp VR6 models with automatics (wish we could get 5-speed manuals though). We don't get nearly as many seating options as your vw.co.uk site lists though.

VW sort of had to do this. Eurovans for 1999-2000 were a good $5000 more than a similar domestic or Asian people carrier, yet still fell shorter on power with the 140hp VR6. The price cut and the 24V engine were pretty much necessities to have a better chance of competing. Still, most 'Murricans probably don't even know that VW still sells a van here.

Would love to have those, but we don't get them.
Sounds like your prices over there can be kinda high, but you have a product range far better than we get.

This is correct, the new front end was introduced to make the people carriers stand out from the Transporters, and look a little bit more like the passenger cars. The new front end was also made to make the VR6 engine fit under the front end. All technical modifications and dashboard has been carried over to the Transporter.

Yeah, yeah. Calm down! There is one window van transporter with the Caravelle front end at the local dealer here as well. On the spec sheet it says that the van has optional Caravelle front end (doesnt say how much $$)

Maybe the Eesti importer specifies the Transportes that way from the factory? That is a possibility, you know.

Re: "EuroVan" now in EUROpe (PerL)

I haven´t see a Transporter with the new front end here. Must be an Estonian thing. http://www.vwn.de doesn´t list a Transporter with a new front end either.
The Transporter also got a slight facelift (while retaining the old nose):
new bumpers, wheels, rear lights, "nostrils" for the TDI version and the new cockpit.
P.S.: And yes, US Eurovans are cheap compared to any European country.

CHEAP??? Wouldn't say so..
Anyhow see the last post by PER, that's exactly what it looks like a panel van with ONE side window in the side door(s) and the new fron end and the name TRANSPORTER.
On the "cheap" thing check this out (divde price by 17 to get it into USDs) http://vw.dasein.ee/tarbeautod/
Choose model and then "hinnad"

(per divide by 2 to NOKs

Cheap??? You could just put NOK behind the Transporter prices and you're almost there.
Prices Transporter: http://www.volkswagen.no/nytte/priser/pris_transporter.htm
Prices Caravelle: http://www.volkswagen.no/nytte/priser/pris_caravelle.htm
Note: "Kombinertbil" is taxed as 50% bus, 50% delivery van, a Norwegian specialty.

Re: "EuroVan" now in EUROpe (Cullen)

A German Caravelle V6 costs 38593 € (34k US$), an US Eurovan (which is probably better equipped) goes for $26,200 - $27,700. Germany does have pretty low retail prices (including taxes) for a European country, so I´d say the US Eurovan is chaper than in Europe. I didn´t say the Eurovan is a cheap car in
Europe.
The V6 Caravelle isn´t available in Estonia, so you can´t really compare.

Yes they are, they are just a bit slow on updating the site!

It's not really "cheap" anywhere for the unmodern (sorry I like it but it is aging quickly)
Anyhow, since estonia hasn't had had western cars for more than aprox. ten yrs there is still a constant flow of importing used cars from Germany, and a cars has to be at least 3-4yrs old in Germany to reach the price they are brand new here. There is some special pricing for the former eastern block and since Estonia doesn't had much of a car tax...

Sorry, I didn´t read that, my Estonian is a bit rusted.

But they don´t list prices and the 2slow Caravelle is already almost as expensive as the US Eurovan.

Re: "EuroVan" now in EUROpe (Eolair)

UPDATE!!!
Yesterday I saw 4 new Transporters in the lot at the local VW dealer, all had the Caravelle front end! On Friday, I saw an ad in a newspaper, one of the old promo pics (the red double cab in front of a half finished house) was photoshop'ed to the "big" front end. Does this mean that VW has made the Caravelle front end standard on the Transporter as well? The VWN web site has not received any updates, of course.
