Ok boys and girls, here's the data. All runs were 3rd gear. K&N was run a few nights ago at 39F ambient and dry air, EVO CAI was run a little while ago at 37F ambient and higher humidity...it snowed early this morning. I don't consider these temp/humidity changes significant, and the runs were done on the same stretch of road after an identical warmup from cold start.
For those who just want the quick version, if you take the K&N values at the RPMs that match (or are only 40 revs apart) the CAI has a small edge down low (probably the turbo spools a little quicker, maybe just BS). At about 5500-5800 rpm, you start to see the CAI pull away if you graph it. At 6240 you'll notice that the CAI has its peak difference of about 10 ft-lb and 12 hp. Finally, despite my mediocre midrange torque numbers, I hit 230hp at 6800 rpm.
http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif I also noticed that the VAG-COM torque hit almost 300Nm in 4th and 5th, whereas the K&N would not budge past 285 no matter what I did.

Re: EVO CAI vs. K&N Panel - BLOCK 120 DYNO TEST (black2001aww)

Ok, now go slap on the BMC CDA and get back out there and test that too! Serioiusly though, nice work. I'm too much of a wuss to take my car to 6800rpm... but that is some nice peak HP.
What other mods do you have? I'm guessing you have chip and 3" exhaust?
Oh, and 177.9 / 5252 * 6800 = 230. What's listed looks right to me.

Re: EVO CAI vs. K&N Panel - BLOCK 120 DYNO TEST (Gatorfreak)

so going by the increase of the ITG drop in fitler over the dropin K&N, It would just be a hp or two under the evo intake, for what 60 bucks?? And they don;'t fall out, sorry had too.

Mine hasn't fallen out yet. Everything looks real solid too. I tightened those clamps REAL good and pulled and twisted on everything, especially the filter.
And the ITG doesn't make a cool BOV sound and a darth vader sound when you start sucking in air. So there.

How was the ITG vs. K&N test done? Static dyno, 120 dyno, what car?
Gator-
Mods are in my signature. The GIAC chip is in right now, and I have a 3" exhaust from turbo to tailpipe (which means I run out of revs before I run out of HP).

My ITG does, you just have to do it right, Who wants that noise anyway, its just plain annoying like a BOV.
AS for my tests they were donw on my KO4 jetta, K&N average abotu 5hp over stock paper filter, ITG averaged about 12hp over a stock filter, and no fitler at all averged abot 15hp over a stock filiter. THis was done on a mustang dyno, all the same day, all whithin an hour of each other, all intake and IC starting temps were whithin 5 degrees of each otehr for every run.

Re: EVO CAI vs. K&N Panel - BLOCK 120 DYNO TEST (chris86vw)

I need a K04 too. My car now has an intake and exhaust worthy of a detroit diesel but a tiny little snail pushing the air through.
If I get a GT25, T3, or something like that, do I need a new DP or just manifold?

yes, you will need a new DP... something we are working on. just as soon as i can get my hands on an atp manifold, we will have dps avail for the T3 setup from atp that will bolt directly to our cat.
oh.. and, yes, you will need a new manifold.

Re: trying to figure out how to do that on Excel (dbrowne1)

Each Y-series in Excel can have its own X-series so different RPM columns are not a problem. I'm going to post a dyno-day spreadsheet where VAG-COM logging was done simultaneously with the Mustang dyno. Graph examples will be included.

Would it stop logging for several seconds and then start again? That has happened to me some. John S has mentioned that can be caused by Microsoft FindFast. Gotta kill that.

Did you rename the log file or overwrite another one (because of the default filename)? I couldn't get mine to log if I renamed the file before logging it, so I used the default and then resaved it as an excel file if I wanted to keep it.

I had that happen a few times, I clicked log but never clicked start. One time it was a 6th gear speed limiter test, darn.

Nice numbers. Do you find fuel economy problem with EVO CAI or K&N? Some say they experience fuel econ drop with K&N.
