EVO intake idea

okay all of you with the evo intake and experienced rain and the filter getting wet becuase the underside between the valance and fender wall is open...heres an idea: the audi TT 225hp model has twin intercoolers as we all know and admire. well if we can get that ducting for the intercooler on the driver side, dremel a hole for the intake tube, trim it a bit, bolt it on, that would solve the wet filter problem! sound feasible? and it would be very very clean, stock looking

Uhhh...I don't follow you. What is it you're trying to do here? The CAI gets wet because the filter is right there inside the fender with rain drops hitting it as you drive forward.
Re: EVO intake idea (dbrowne1)

i'm confused too...or maybe it's just i got off work...nah i'm confused, explain?
Re: EVO intake idea (01silverGTI)

WAIT i know what he means..no it would be a bad idea..mud from the road would be flung in to the element then by yer tires, and the airflow would not be as good
Re: EVO intake idea (01silverGTI)

no no no! im saying you knwo the bottom is open right? a lot of water comes in from there, so if we can block it off, it till be dry-er...anyways, i just thought of using some plexiglass, cheaper too, ill take pics later. more Q's?
Re: EVO intake idea (davy913)

more air good..a lil bit of water that doesn't enter the system is of no consequence, and actually a wet filter would make the air COLDER (evaporation releases heat), and besides if you are concerned about water entering the engine, they make the bypass valve

Youll be blocking off the air from under the car too. Thats kinda the point of a CAI. It grabs the air going under and through the front bumper.
You have a good idea of blocking the water off, but youll also block air flow.

its been raining all week here, and im fine
Re: EVO intake idea (Graz-Wolf 01')

I have yet to drive my car in the rain with the EVO on and was wondering how often does everyone clean there filter when its exposed to alot of rain. I was told that the oil will not last as long when the filter gets wet???? I guess I'm kinda lucky because it doesn't rain as much here as other places
Also, If anyone has some pics of there filters with some miles on it and lots of rain use would be pretty neat! Thanks!

I was kinda thinking about putting some mesh, like window screening on the bottom, that would stop lots of road-water from flinging into the filter I suppose. I was thinking about it cause I'm paranoid about the filter falling off and boucing down the road never to be seen again, this would at least allow me to say oh ish, stop the car and reattach it

Re: EVO intake idea (slugman)

I believe you guys are qworrying too much, Ive had 2 cold air intakes on 2 diffrent cars and never had any problems with water.
Ive had the evo for 1 week now and its been raining the last 3-4 days here in VA and it has not affected me at all.
Does the filter get wet? Yes, enough to affect ANYTHING? Absolutely not. Its like condensation....thats all...if anything, the air going in becomes slightly humid....no biggie.

I'm not worried about it, just wondering how often I should consider re-oiling the filter if its getting wet a lot. Has anyone checked there filter after repeated exposure to rain????
