EVO VII vs. WRX STi

I'm thinking of getting an EVO VII but i hear alot of great things about the STi as well...so i was wondering... what is everybodys opinion of the upcoming HUGE rivalry between Subaru and Mitsubishi?
Who would win in a all out race? I'm talking 1/4 mile, Top speed, lateral grip, build quality, everything!

All I know is that Tiff, from Top Gear?, picked the WRX when he drove both in a comparison test. IMO, the Evo looks much better, though.

As I understand it, the EVO VII is basically a WRX STi that goes to eleven, character-wise. The EVO VII is the faster car in most measures, but its also harsher, according to the UK journos. So, you have to be willing to make the trade-off.
I have no idea which would be more fun though. It certainly would be a kick finding out, however.

You can bet that when the EVO goes on sale in the US, every car rag will be having WRX vs EVO articles...and just imagine the threads we'll be reading (and participating in) here in the Car Lounge.

The current evo comes with a bunch of electronic doo-dads for traction control, automatic diff regulation, etc. If you're one who likes toys, you may enjoy the evo. The Sti is a little more pure in that it's just a powerful engine strapped onto a simple AWD platform. No traction control or any of that stuff that we don't need since we're all as good as Michael Schumacher

Anyway, the Sti hasn't been confirmed in the US yet, and Motor Trend recently said Mitsu will bring a 280 hp Evo to the US next year (probably more speculation, but they stated it like fact). If it's Evo vs. the present WRX... well... unless the Evo costs considerably more, it'll probably be the better choice, unless Mitsubishi has a relapse of their quality control issues.

EVO 7 is much faster than WRX STi. However, the Japanese press has criticized it as being no fun to drive on dry pavement - referring to the fact that the car understeers more than oversteers around corners.

I'm sure the aftermarket can fix that.
Personally, I think I prefer the looks of the WRX. I'm probably in the minority on that one.

I agree with you.
Most people hate the WRX's big roundy headlights, but they're somewhat restyled in the STi. They don't just have one big round reflector, it's a smoked housing with smaller HID lenses inside that sort of mimic the WRC car's light kit.

I liked the Evo I through VI, but the VII looks too much like an Accord with a body kit. It's still a decent looking car, just not as great as it was.

AutoCar says the EVO 7 lacks the "heart pounding, body sweating" feeling of EVO 5 and 6, however, its still a great car.

I agree too. I've always kinda liked the looks of the WRX, and I like the little things on the STi (like the headlights) even more. To me, the EVO VII looks a litte too. . . dare I say it? . . . . ricey. Please don't flame me, it's just my humble opinion.

And plus, a race-modified WRX STi used to be my main car back in GT1 on the PS1.

I love both the WRX and the EVO........i have to say that i always loved the EVO more........the performance in that car is just awesome........The EVO has always been a step ahead of the WRX and i like the way the EVO has looked through all of them........

Yeah i agree...what other colors would it come out in? I love Silver or black. I've seen it in black, has anyone seen it in silver?

HAHAHA...now theyre gonna have to change the commercial of the WRX comparing it to the S4 because the Mitsu's gonna be kicking its A$$!! Finally some EQUAL competition for the WRX.
