2005.5 Jetta. I am getting exhaust into the cabin. It's pre-cat exhaust by the smell, and it is strong. There is no noise like you'd expect, and it happens more when the engine is hot, not cold. One local exhaust guy says he found a crack in the cat mounting flange and welded it. It still leaked. I took it back, and could find nothing else. Next I took it to my VW trained independent mechanic, he dropped the system and also found a crack on the upper end of the cat flange that was not visible without dropping the system, and welded that.
It still leaks and I smell it under the hood. What should we look at next? How bad a job is removing the manifold when all you have is ramps and not a lift?
