Exhaust Question

598 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  jasonhouse
I am looking at upgrading my exhaust. A friend of mine told me to just purchase a 3" downpipe, and dont put a cat and muffler. Basically where my downpipe ends is where my exhaust would end. Is this true or just being cheap. he said yoiu will get more of a gain in hp this way.

I don't think you'd be able to hear your stereo anymore. http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif

Re: Exhaust Question (Gatorfreak)

Uh, so your friend wants to to remove everyting after the downpipe? Well first things first, don't listen to him anymore. The rest of the exhaust system is essential for back pressure. Also not to mention is would be ungawdly loud you will not only have a headache after 5 minutes in the car but a ticket everywhere you went.
So with that said, here is THE exhaust for our cars (I have a 2002 1.8t as well). Forced Motion 3" turbo back system. Yes, it comes with a 3" downpipe, 3" CAT, and 3" pipe the rest of the way back. There's a group buy going on right now until Nov 30th so get on it fast, two spots left!
Re: Exhaust Question (A-Money)

In a turboed car, doing so will net more power under the curve. Many drag cars that use torbos have NOTHING on the exhaust after the gasses leave the turbo housing itself. There is simply nothing there. The less backpressure, the easier it is to spin the turbine. At least that's what I've seen in magazines and stuff...
