Okay, so my family has decided to go with the 2002 Passat GLX Tiptronic sedan...
The car is for my mom, who can't seem to visualize what the color swatches will look like on an entire car, and is willing to travel very far to just see a car color. We're going to try online car buying for the first time, so if you all could help me out with the "color relationships" on the Passat, that'd be great!
Please vote for the best exterior and interior colors below, and post the best combo's too! Also, what seems to be the classiest or the rarest colors driving around?

you didint list indigo blue.. =( I ordered my new passat in Ink Blue, but when I was told I had to wait 4 or more months I said..NO THANKS!! I'll take the Indigo blue..

go to http://www.vw.com and to the passat configurater and you can see the car in all the offered colors......I got white for the praticallity of it and it is nice (hot and dusty here in hawaii) but my favorites would be INK BLUE/grey leather,( 2nd choice biege leather) 2nd, the fresco green color and grey leather, 3 rd pine green/ beige leather and if i got crazy and irrational, colorado red/beige.
from what most have said the biege is diffucult to keep clean, I have grey and it's not too hard to keep clean, and black , well is black

I have done the vw.com configurator (VW needs to upgrade their frikkin' servers! Good lord they are so slow!). But what we're thinking about is how the interior complements the exterior when looking through the windows from the outside.

IMHO, the darker colors, mainly the blues, with the beige interior...classy!
BTW, Indigo Variant with Beige leather in ~four weeks!

I was told that Colorado Red was one of the rarest colors... then I saw a few on the road. Anyway, I humbly submit my car as the best possible combination

grey leather

black, anthracite blue, or ink blue with grey leather... yummy! (mine is black with black leather, that's good too but hard to keep clean)

How far would you be willing to travel? As far as Germany

? Fly over to Frankfurt, I’ll pick you up at the Airport and drive you to some dealers where you can see all colors… I have quite an experience now, I couldn’t decide either and visited many dealers for some weekends after I finally settled for Fresco Green (with black interior), the rarest color for Passats over here, judged by what I see on the road.

My Pine Green/Black combo seems to be fairly rare.

I would go for Silverstone Grey/Beige Leather or Blue Anthracite/Beige Leather...

classiest, by far: Blue Anthracite with Beige interior
rarest: Ink Blue
mine: Indigo Blue with Beige
caveat: Indigo is hard to keep clean

I have ordered a variant in candy white with beige leather.
Classic look, never goes out of style (popular combo with Mercedes and Volvo too). White doesn't show pollen and dust as badly as dark colors. Beige leather is a natural look, the grey depresses me, and black looks sinister. So if it's for your mom and she's a classy woman, go with white/beige

I love my anthracite blue with grey leather. I REALLY don't like tan/beige - I personally don't think it's classy at all.
I also would say that the interior should be lighter than the exterior. But then, I'd never get a white or silver car, so I don't know what I'd do in those cases...

Okay, so which of the following combo's would you choose?
Blue Silver with Black Leather
Mojave Beige with Beige Leather
Ink Blue with Black Leather
What is the best interior color for the Blue Silver, Mojave Beige, Fresco Green, and Ink Blue? Reflex Silver too, maybe.
Which color leather is the hottest, and which is the easiest to keep clean-looking (hides the dirt?)? I would think black would show the scuffs, and beige would get grungy in the cracks. But the grey is so unappealing.

Well, if those are the three choices, I guess I'd go with Mojave Beige/Beige Leather...

IMHO, I would probably go with beige leather for each of those (though I have seen Mojave Beige/Black leather a couple of times and thought they looked kinda nice...

Personally, the grey is the least appealing of the 3 to me, too. I would think black leather would be the hottest and the beige leather would be the easiest to keep clean...

Whatever you decide, she should go find that configuration first and drive it - or at least sit in it front and back. Happened to a friend of mine, decided on an Int/ext mix, practically ordered the car, then found the combination and sat in it. Then decided that it was not right. Would have been too bad if it were realized after the deal.
