Extreme boost problems - need help!

930 Views 8 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  dbrowne1
My car is running very badly whether the chip is on or off; The boost comes on very suddenly, jumps to about 4 thousand rpm's then drops very suddenly to about 2200 rpm's and then back up again. Sometimes I seem to have no boost at all. Also the car seems to be having difficulties revving past about 4000 rpm's - I'm psuhing the acclerator farther than normal to get certain rpm's. Basically it is very difficult to keep my car running at certain rpm's as the needle is jumping up and down - from boost to no boost...
Another symptom - If I have my ASR on and spin my wheels, the ASR light comes on and stays on. Only after I turn the car off and then restart it does the light turn off - this has never happened before.
Please provide me with any possible details as to what can be wrong with my car, and what can be done about it. I know that APR offers a TBA program - do you think this will help (I'm not exactly sure what it does).
I'm thinking I'll just turn the chip off and have the dealer fix this, if together we can't "fix it."
See my sig. for details about my car.
Thanks for your help!

Re: Extreme boost problems - need help! (turbocharged)

have you contacted apr? i would immediately
Re: Extreme boost problems - need help! (wolfsburg2)

Yes I contacted them yesterday - they said it sounds like surging and that would it would be a good idea to take it to 1552 desgin for them to have a look at it. I just don't feel like driving 3 hours for them to tell me ther's nothing they can do... Hopefully I can find a local mechanic that can help me out...

i fthere is anyone local that has a vag com try and scan it.
Re: Extreme boost problems - need help! (wolfsburg2)

Yeah - I would like to hook up a vag com to see if there are any codes being thrown (although if this is the case the cel should be on which it's not). But I don't think the vagcom would help too much.

I'm kinda skeptical about taking it into the dealership - I dont want to lose my warranty. Maybe the 6pack thing will help though

My experience with dealers and ECU problems goes something like this:
Service manager: Hi sir. So your car is misbehaving, huh?
ME: Yeah. It stalls, and sometimes it won't restart.
(later on)
SM: I notice you have this aftermarket filter and valve. The tech drove it and he said it stalled on him too. He also said it pulls like a TT roadster...do you have an aftermarket chip in your ECU?
ME: uhhh...yeah.
SM: Well, we would recommend replacing your ECU. It'll be $800 because you modified it and we won't warranty it. We can't find anything wrong. It must be your chip.
ME: Well, I've had the chip for 20K miles and no problems. Seems odd...
SM: We think it's your chip. We can't open your ECU to look though.
ME: OK, thanks. I'll contact the chip dealer.
SM: Here's your key, good luck.
