Re: failed heavy duty TT valve springs (breandan)

supposedly the problem was fixed rather early on. there was a thread on this and TT responded, only 2 or 3 pple at the max on the entire forum had had a problem. my Q would be if they would stand liable for any damage incurred from a broken spring that is properly sized & installed?
I plan to get their springs & cam later on this spring so You can guarantee that I'll be asking!

Re: failed heavy duty TT valve springs (OhioBenz)

I was one of the people who had a serious problem with the stupid springs. 2 spirngs broke and one collapsed.. I called TT and told them about it. and all they did was offer to replace the old ones for me. THATS NEVER GONNA HAPPEN.. cause i will not put the damn things in my car again. http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif

Re: failed heavy duty TT valve springs (jester69)

Right here dude (raises hand). I had 2 of them shatter on me about 2 months ago - they had been installed at TT on the head by Collin himself when he did a StreetPort II head for me late last year. I declined replacements and opted to shell out the bucks for Schrick springs.. I was supposed to be getting a refund in the mail directly from TT but it never showed.. I have to get back after them.
I've heard they have changed suppliers, but no way I'd trust them again - I've heard too many stories from reliable sources about this happening - most of them before it happened to me. Now I believe 'em all. http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif

Re: failed heavy duty TT valve springs (tnesh)

i have TT springs in my 83 GTi head P&P'd......with a neuspeed 272 cam.....i've had them in for 3 years now and i can rev the piss out of my VW. i just installed them in my 16v head with autotech cams...i am anxious to see how it performs. TT is a great company and i'm sure it was just a bad batch of springs...but still it sucks...sorry to hear that happended.

Re: failed heavy duty TT valve springs (CHETVW007)

i've had 2 or 3 sets of the springs so far, and anyone that's seen me beat on my car knows that they put up with a lot 7000rpm use. i've got CIS-E, so i can't bring it over 7200-7300rpm, but 7000 is still pretty high.
i can't say that they won't break, because anything can happen, but i've been happy with them.
<rant>
the next time i buy valve springs it will be shrick, however. not because of shoddy TT quality, but shoddy TT service. i've dealt with them a lot, and everytime i've done so, i always feel that they don't have the time for lowly old me. it's like i've put them out for having call and ordered $500US worth of gear...

Well,
If they were a really great company & their DEFECTIVE parts did 1k of damage to my head, I'd expect them to at least offer to fix the head at cost or somehow compensate me for the damage. The other guy said they would only replace the valve springs, no love for his damage.
So, TT went down a big notch in my mind after reading all about the valve spring fiasco, I learned they dont stand behind their products. Also, i've heard that their adj. cam gears tend to grenade, and IMHO, their CIS-E "power module" is a badly designed $30-50 item that they sell for $140.
However, they know their stuff and I will still buy exhaust bits from them & all kinds of other stuff, Just nothing that they designed where if it fails i'm going to damage other parts that they will then refuse to pay for. (i/e i'll buy a high volume oil pump, but not valve springs, keepers, cam gears, etc.)
BTW if i hear that TT is going to start paying for peoples headwork when their valve springs/adjustable cam gears let go, then they move back to the top, they know their stuff for sure.
take care,
Steve

Re: failed heavy duty TT valve springs (Dieder)

I have a fresh head with the TT springs in the garage waiting to be installed. I find this disturbing, but what are ya gonna do? You guys will be the first to know if they fail.

I would like to but this was my first attempt at sponsorship and I can't really give them back. I'll ride it out. No big deal. I got bigger things to worry about in life than a busted car.
