FF or 4K into my 93 GTI 8v what plus and minus
here is the situation....i can get the ff one tomorrow for 50 bucks more than the 4k but it is like waranteed u could say. I would have to wait another week for the 4k but i wouldnt be positive of the conditon besides that the guy told me it was perfect...what should i do?

FF is REALLY freaking tall. Both 4th and 5th are overdrive gears I think. Are you aiming for supreme fuel economy? It'd totally change the way the car accelerates. If you had a turbo maybe...
Is the 4K totally as-is, or do you get a month to exchange it if it's dead or anything? Can you at least manually run it through the gears and turn the input shaft and see the output flanges spin? also turn the output flanges in opposite directions to see that the spider gears feel okay. (there should be a little resistance because of that little ring that some people like to pretend is LSD, or is that just on later trannies?)

Heres another thing. The car will have a lightened fly wheel with the new trans, which ever goes in. So would the ff with the LT Flywheel be better?

Personally, I think that'd make it worse. You'll have an engine that is trickier to rev correctly and a tall wide tranny that wants to resist the engine more.

these two trannies are almost total opposites as far as purpose goes. do you want relatively slow off the line/cruise highway quietly or do you want a super quick acceleration/high revs on the highway?

What he said. Plus the FF will not fit an A2 (No provision for the mount) so I guess that solves it. Only 8/83+ trannies will fit A2s.1 - 8 of 8 Posts
