Fiberglass/Carbon teacher(s)??

392 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Seanathan
My buddy is looking for someone to teach him how to create certain enclosures in fiberglass, and even carbon fiber. He has access to all the fiberglass and carbon fiber he needs. He basically needs someone to teach him. Anyone? Anyone know anyone? Thanks guys for the help! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Are you referring to stereo enclosures.. if so, that is an artform difficult to learn.. and composites/fibres are not a good material to use to build with unless your going for asthetics over sound quality

Honestly, im not sure what he meant. He's a security guard at the place i work, so i'll have to ask him. I'm not sure what he wants to make with Carbon Fiber, and as for fiberglass, I'm guessing stereo enclosures.

There is alot more to it then having access to the material. He would need to know what type of resin he can get, and if it room temp curing or if it will require an oven/autoclave to cure. There are ways to do it 'down and dirty' but they probably wont get the look he is going for. There are many websites that detail different types of composite fabrication. Do a search and read up on the methods he will need for the material he can get.
I don't know much about designing or tuning a speaker enclosure, but I do work with composites. I would agree that composites are probably not the best for sound, being they can have the tendency to resonate sound. If you were to cover the inside with insulation or rubber or somehting that may help. I would think that you may be better off to build your enclosure from wood then laminate the surface with a boat style fiberglass that you would gelcoat. But do what you like.
