I was wondering, as I am new to this forum, if anyone here has experience swapping out gears in there vehicles? I'm looking for input on possibly changing out the final gear to make my R32 more highway/gas friendly. Or maybe someone here may have some input on other ways of improving the gas mileage on this vehicle, but still keep it's competitive edge in the lower gears. Thanks everyone

Re: final gear? (cuervoespecial)

Due to the design of the tranny with two intermediate shafts you cant 'just' swap out the R&P, but you should check out the MkIV forum

Yes you can change the final gear ratio to lower cruising RPMs. This of course will change all the gear ratios. Some of the high ouput FI cars are using this to decrease the need to shift in the 1/4, second well past 60, and increase topend performance and speed.

Yeah, but the nice thing is the 1st final drive is for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th, and the 2nd final drive is for 5th, 6th and reverse. So, you could just swap the pinion of the second final drive and get both improved economy at highway cruising (5th and 6th gear), and keep the performance of the lower gears.
