It was nice out... 55 or so. Had to wash car!!!! So I retook pictures for everyone

I love sharing heh

AND... last night a kid called me from durango colorado.. bout 50 minutes away. He was really interested in the mustang and wanted a test drive. I had the guy who's keeping it on his lot drive it down to the house for me.. and I was going to meet the kid from colorado later that night.
Now... I havent driven that mustang AT ALL since December 24th when I picked up my car. This was the first time I had been in it. Now for 8 years I've had this car... driven it every day... and I always thought it was just the greatest... comfortable, rattle free, smooth riding, fast, sharp handling etc.
I tell you I I sat down in that drivers seat and went OMG this SUCKS!!! The seat was very uncomfortable.. I sat on it, not in it... the plastic was beyond cheap.. and I have no clue how I drove for 8 years with the seat like that... but I had to adjust it alot.. and still never found a good seating position. I cranked it up and could not believe how loud it was.... and I always said my car was quiet for a mustang!!! I couldnt believe the # of rattles and other odd noises that sprang to life. I turned the lights on and was amazed at how poorly they worked. AND I was amazed at how poor the dash lights were.... really really tiny and hard to read.. Getting down the road.. NOTHING was smooth.. .not the tranny.. not the engine.. definately not the suspension... the brakes sucked (even though they are BAER big brakes).. everything rattled and creaked and the entire car felt loose like it was going to fall apart...even with a 6 point roll cage!... and I thought my god I cant WAIT to get out of this POS mustang!!!
My little dub made that mustang feel like a complete turd. I coudlnt wait to get out and back into my GTI... the wonderfull little engine (which felt alot faster than the 310hp mustang) the beautiful interior.... the lights!!! It was nice to drive it and put a smile back on my face after driving around grimacing in the turdstang.
I love my GTI!!

Re: Finally got to wash the car! Pics naturally =D and MAN I do love my dub!!! (Rave'nGTi)

Dani,
Looks nice, but in the front and back pictures, it seems that your car is 'listing' to the left. Do you have your sway bar tightened down on one side too much? Might be a visual trick in the pictures, but it sure looks like its leaning to the drivers side.
Otherwise.. car looks great! Just need to get that 4x4 look down (like I have room to talk.. two of my three 1.8Ts have the 'off-road' look goin on. http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif ) and it will be niiiice lookin. Btw, when you coming to firebird again? Would love to take ya for a ride in one of the fast dubs.

I think its just the picture..
1) I took it crooked and then tried to rotate it heh..
3) that funky shadow doesnt help either
I will go and check though just to see...
If it is leaning then what do I need to do???

ok I went and measured...
DF = 26 5/8 PF = 27
DR = 27 7/8 PR = 27 1/2
Granted it is sitting on a slope down to the rear.. but the driveway is pretty level side to side
what should I do???

You have stock suspension, right?
Check your sway bar to make sure its not binding and holding one side down. Also, check to make sure (this sounds silly, but it could be true) that your tire pressures are even.
I just want to make sure you checked it right (I am sure you did, your a smart girl...) Bounce up and down on each corner of the car to get it to its normal ride height, also, make sure that when you measure, you do it on level ground, with no binding (parking brake OFF, out of gear). Coast to a stop (don't use brakes) and check it again.
My theory is that nothing is wrong with your car, but you just pulled into the driveway by making a right hand turn, compressing the left side of the car and probably applied the brakes and parking brake at the same time, causing the binding to happen when you came to a complete stop.
Keep us posted (I know you will, with pics

Dani: Have you recently jacked up one side of the car? That would compress the springs opposite the jack, and allow the springs on the jack side to unweight. Just a thought.
love your car BTW

The drivers front is lower then the pf due to the placement of the the motor and trans. In the rear the dr is higher to make up for the weight of the driver, (I am not saying that you are "large") This I think has something to do with "unsprung" I will look for more info.

Re: Finally got to wash the car! Pics naturally =D and MAN I do love my dub!!! (Blacklightning)

ok ok..
I pulled into the garage.. alot more level than that angled, cracked and settled driveway!
I measured ride height and axle shift in relation to the body (from fender edge to front face of rim using a straight edge and a level.)
here we go again!
DF= 26 3/4 DR= 27 5/8
PF = 26 5/8 PR = 27 5/8
Axle shift was pretty good... less than 1/16th shift to the drivers side.
I also measured the endlinks on the swaybar... they are abosolutely indentical in length.
So there you have it... I'm a dumbass for measuring on an uneven driveway heh.
This is actually one of the most level cars i've ever measured!

bump!
do you think everything is ok??? I notice sometimes it does sit crooked to one side or the other.....
I did have to pry on the pass side of the swaybar just a tad to get the bolt through the hole all the way.... but thats despite the fact that I measured and everything was centered. I even unbolted it all and pulled on it to scoot it over a tad.
It does sit even on absolutely level surfaces though... So its ok
right????

Thanks for the post, Dani....always a pleasure.
I want to thank you too for testifying to the quality of the VW over the Mustang. It's funny...the other day I was looking at a Mustang GT on the street and thinking..."boy it'd sure be nice to have that much HP....and it looks kinda' cool too", but then I thought "nah....it's just not a German car" and I went about my day. It's good to hear it from someone who owned and loved one herself that they are not as good a car. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
P.S. I noticed in earlier pictures that it appeared as your car was drooping on one side too but never mentioned it figuring you had it under control...or that it was just an optical thing with the shadows and angle of the photo. Glad to hear it's not uneven.

hehe, Dani and you always said you loved that Stang. But fun and refinment have been met in the GTI. Glad you appriciate your GTI more.
And take better shots of the spoiler
headon makes it hard to see and from how it looks on your car I'm thinking about that one istead of the OEM. Ohh ya how bad does it bend your antenna?

a baer brake equipped mustang, will outstop most anything on the street. Their is no way around this... Either they were setup wrong, or your lying about them being Baer's.
