Finally Part of the B5 Family!!!

Not sure if any of you remember me coming over from the Golf/Jetta III forum
asking a bunch of questions about Passats....well after wanting to get one and then
not finding the right one, and not being able to afford the new ones....out of luck
I just happened to be at the right place at the right time.
No pics yet..but I'm now the proud owner of a '99 Candy White B5 Passat Wagon.
Black leather interior, 1.8t, Tip, CD changer, and only 29k miles.
Cool story too... My friend called me up on friday night saying that she's been offered a GLX Cabrio since the one she'd ordered was still going to be another couple of months, so I went with her on Saturday to help her decide on color....we end up wtaking this Eurovan MV (camper version without the pop-top) out for a test drive and stop by Burger King for lunch (while they're detailing the Cabrio), we're sitting inside the thing using the table to eat off of, really cool, was even thinking of getting one of those instead of the Passat. We come back and there's this couple next to her Civic cleaning out their white Passat wagon. I jokenly ask them if they're trading it in...and yep they are for a '02 GLX 4-Motion Wagon. I talked to the owner for about an hour discussing their mantenance habits, if the cars ever been wrecked and all that crap. Well...now it's mine!!!!
So sad to see my old Getta all dirty sitting in the dealership looking all lonely...but after a 1/2
of driving the Passat...completely forgot all about it! No more black paint to deal with is going to be a plus...no matter how bad I hear white is.
I even caught myself smiling while I was at 7-11 picking up a soda and I just happened to glance out the window and saw my new baby sitting under the lamp post with the warm (gotta be about 60 degrees tonight) december night sky in the back.

Talk about fate. If I would have told my friend that I couldn't go with her, this wouldn't have happened....and so glad it did.

I was worried about my Candy White job too but I grew to love it. IMO white does not show the dirt as quickly as other colors. I still wash it once a week but people even ask why since it looks clean.
Enjoy!

Re: Finally Part of the B5 Family!!! (TCP-IP)

tcp-ip...yeah a good friend of mine has a candy white golf and when we'd detail cars
his always looked clean enough to eat on and after hours of working on the black
jetta...still looked like crap. i just love the way white shows up at night...kinda like
a big light bulb.

Now I'm on a quest for GLX 16's, getting the windows tinted (not too dark) and looking
foward to racking the milage up!

Andy,
Great story and great news! Thanks for sharing. I just got my (sedan) less than 2 weeks ago, and I can relate to the excitement!
Congratulations!
Re: Finally Part of the B5 Family!!! (arc)

Congradulations.
I was also once a Jetta GLX owener. Although I do miss the grunt of the VR6, there is nothing in my opinion like a passat!!!
Re: Finally Part of the B5 Family!!! (TCM GLX)

It's awesome to drive. Partner went to drive it up to Best Buy and I sat at the window like a little dog watching it drive away...something about the white, it makes the car look bigger than other cars...just wish the front wasn't so high but from what I've learned on the jetta...I ain't modding this one...maybe a couple things but nothing major.
I ended up Quick detailing it today and removing the dealer badges off the back..tiny imperfections but compared to the Jetta this Passat is perfect.

Congrats! Sounds like you made a great deal http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Congrats, I know how you feel about your Getta! When i traded in my 97 GTI, black w/yellow stripes, adn all my mods, I wanted to cry. I loved that car, tehn i drove off the lot and it hit me, the Passat is just too freaking great, I still smile when i go out to see it!!!!

Re: Finally Part of the B5 Family!!! (BZZZZ_02_1.8t_Passat)

what's funny is that I had to go to the dealership so they could VW Certify the car for warrantee and of all cars they parked behind mine to be brought into the service shop.....my Jetta. I walked about 4 blocks to a small store to buy a disposable camera and by the time I got back they had moved the Passat into the shop.
Perfect camera opportunity too.
the other cool part is while I was sitting in the dealership there were about two people that were looking at it while I waited...hopefully after a bunch of work it makes it's way to a person that'll take care of it.

Re: Finally Part of the B5 Family!!! (VAVentoGLX)

I ran out real quick today at work since a coworker brought it his
wife's new wagon.

The camera isn't that great and the sun is out so the combo made
for some bad photos...o well.

The Blue-silver was sweet...that was my second choice if I could have afforded a 2002. I like how at the dealership the BS looked really blue, yet at work, my coworkers BS looked very silver. If it wasn't for his Wash. Caps sticker in the back window I wouldn't have realized it was his.
There's just something about white that I love. Ever since my brother took me for a ride in his bosses white RX7 Convertible back in the early 90's and seeing how well it shows up at night. I love it, I love it, I love it....plus the fact that people think I'm a freak for trading in a sporty Jetta for a Wagon...they just don't understand...it's a Passat!
Now I just need to come up with a better screen name!
and Rob...no lowering this car. it's nice being able to pull into the driveway and not scrape anymore! 16" or 17" rims (VW Pheonix or Audi A4/S4's) definitely, even got approval for it
. Now just need to save up..maybe even sell some of my Dub Matchbox collection to pay for it!

Here's the last pics I'll ever see of the Jetta...funny if someone buys it and ends up on the Vortex.

great shot of the "new and 'old" I'll have to say I like them both......the passat has been a eye catcher since its remodel in 98......
great design and great functional vehicle...........
