this was my first time at a track ever.i really didn't know what i was doing but give it hell. my2001 gti vr6 has a aem intake, giac chip, and a techtonics exhaust w/ a borla. i had not the best reaction time. i could not get a good launch. i just spun the tires in first into second. one question i have is do you want to shift at 7000,6500 or 6000 rpm in all gears. it was hot, with a temp of 94 deg.50% hum. when we got there, and 82 deg when we left. this was my best run.
r/t .822
60' 2.363
330 6.53
1/8 9.948
mph 71.39
1000 12.901
1/4 15.379
mph 91.46
what's the trick to driving this thing. i know it's faster....but i can't figure it out. gonna go back soon to work on r/t. i was thinking of entering the import nationals but don't want to embarace myself. what do you think everyone?

Your 60foot times arent bad at all for a first time dragger. Ive never been and Id expect much worse from my first time. Id say you did pretty good, just practice I guess.

I would take it all the way 7000 rpms. It keeps the engine more in the powerband on the up-shift. Work with it a little bit, and your times should improve with expirience. If you get alot of wheelspin try launching with less gas and ease into it, just try it out.

dont worry about the r/t . has nothing to do with your 1/4 time.work on slipping the clutch.are you shifting into 4th? your losin mph or maybe you are tryin to shift at 7000.try the 6400 works for me

Just like Tim said no 7000 RPM shift points with stock cams. The engine drops off alot after 6400 RPMs. Dont worry about your reaction time at first. Practice more on your launch. Learn to slip the clutch by giving enough gas to hook up and not spin the tires. Practice, Practice, Practice, Know your car and how it reacts to different things. Also have the RPMs up to 2000-3000 for the launch at the lights. Try different RPMs to start that fits your driving style. Again Practice, Practice, Practice.
