Don't know if anyone else has tried this, but this afternoon I fitted rear footwell lighting to my car. So now I have illuminated footwells that mimick the front.
It was quite easy. I ran a cable from the front footwell lights along the doorsill under the plastic, under the carpet to where the existing wiring comes out of the floor to the seat. I then passed the wire into the base of the seat. At the back of the seat is a hole of the exact size as the front footwell light and therefore purchased a couple from the dealer (well one as that is all they had) and installed it.
A small modification, but a simple one that is really effective.
Took some pictures but they don't show so well.

Looks great. What do the light units sell for? BTW, does anyone know if it is possible to have the footwell lights on while driving as is the case in the Touareg? In the Touareg you could choose the intensity. I had mine at 30%.

You can do it w LED's *by buyng an adjustable LED bar light* and use power out of the light switch. I have done it on my MKIV to have blue footwell lights. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif Passat will be getting red thou http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

I believe this is attainable through VAG-COM

Re: Fitted Rear Footwell Lights (mtlfanVW)

Part number is 7L0 947 415.
It cost me Lm6 per unit which is the equivalent to US$18.
But remember stuff like this always seems to be significantly cheaper where you are.
In fact it would be good to know how much this costs for you guys?

Aussie passats don't have footwell lights. Golf GTIs do

I always thought Passat > Golf

I just checked this part number at vwpartsvortex.com and they are $12.98 per light. Additionally, the seats in my 2.0T have the proper cutout in the bottoms. Thanks for the great mod idea ... http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
I assume 3.6 passats already have these, if so, I wonder where the factory wiring terminates. Does anybody know ... (Rich at oemplus, this would make another nice kit

Me too, NAR Passats don't have lit door courtesy lights - they're just reflectors.

I haven't seen door courtesy lights since the mk5 Golfs came. My mk4 has them!
VW build some great cars, I understand that in order to keep the price down they have to delete this or that, but I just find too many things that my mk4 has and the new cars don't

Yes indeed. My lowly Mk IV TDI had that feature too. One can only hope that VW gets price competitive in ways other than decontenting their product.

I don't think they've DEcontented the cars, they've REcontented them. You give up door courtesy lights but gain emergency flashing under hard braking. Oh, wait...

Seriously, there are a lot of little features that we have in our cars. In order to keep the base Passat from approaching $30K they have to make decisions. I suspect few customers would agree with EVERY decision but it seems to me they've struck a pretty good balance.

The ONLY thing that irks me is the darned cupholder. If you're not going to design something that works, then don't bother.
But, in general, I think that the features added far outweighs the features removed.

Do you Americans have larger cans/cups or something? Why do I see you guys refer to "euro" cupholders? When I was in Alabama I only remember the little Pepsi's, and of course, Krispy Kremes

The cupholders in the Passat are the coolest I've seen in any car
