FMIC ubend options?

Is there any reason that this can't be formed using high pressure pvc pipe? Yes it's not as elegant as aluminum, but it won't heat soak and is sure cheap.

Your biggest problem would probably be getting the hoses to stay attached, there wouldn't be that rib to help keep the hoeses on. My system is steady trying to pop a hose.
It sounds weird, but I think there (and this is just an idea I had, don't know if it would work) is a 8v golf overseas that has an intake manifold that has the intake on the opposite side. Then you could run across like normal and maybe run the outlet up the pass. side. And boviously flip some of the things around.
I've yet to see a custom u-bend. Those that have done it please post.

it will deform. under the constant high temps. trust me on this

Say, wrapped in header tape. What temp. do the IC tubes see?
Re: FMIC ubend options? (virgilsg60)

The heat is on the inside. That's why the IC is there, to cool the hot charge coming from the SC.

This I know, but some pvc is rated to 300 degrees, so why wouldn't it work? I've spent enough time rebuilding my house to truly love pvc's flexibility and convienance.
Re: FMIC ubend options? (virgilsg60)

Ok the story behind why I know it won't hold up. when I installed crez's HSM GT charger earlier this year I had to install an open air filter. well the one crez bought was way to large. I just happened to have a p-flow at home. But the adaptor Crez had to bolt the filter to was about 3.5" in diameter. The K&N fit inside the adaptor nicely. But how do you clamp to soft rubber hoses together? You put an insert on the inner diameter. The only 3" item I could find on a sunday was 3"OD PVC pipe. well it deformed after a couple of months and alls it was fighting was the hot engine air. The hot charged air will have much higher temps.

Click the photopoint link at the bottom of my signature to see the custom ubend on a G60 FMIC.

Thanks. I guess the search for a cheap option continues. Any suggestions?
Re: FMIC ubend options? (virgilsg60)

Start searching overseas for the real one. It looks pretty awesome. I' personally have an idea one how to make something that may work out of sheet metal. I don't really have the time nor resources to work on it though. But if you have ever seen a SC on a V8 type set-up, it's similar to that. But I'm sure it wouldn't flow as well as that factory piece. Good luck. And keep me posted if you find one of those gold mine j-yards.

I can't find the ubend photo. What am I missing?

Wooops, you probably mean on Brenden's pics, me neither. I think was referring to the end cap maybe.
Re: FMIC ubend options? (G60247)

Right.. I used the end tank as the ubend. Unless you have a source for the rallye 180* piece, $250 for end tanks isn't a horrible expense for a FMIC.
