For what it's worth, here's my setup:
Euro-spec taillights, clear, lights are off:

Blinkers on, amber/red/amber/red, animated gif, slightly slowed down:

Rear fog on, ignition on, headlight switch pulled out to 2nd fog position:

Rear backup light on, ignition on, car in reverse (Note: after VCDS coding, only one backup light is energized):

To do the trigger wire installation, I used these instructions for a MK5 GLI, which worked fine for my 2010 B6 Passat Wagon:
