I was having on going issues with my front sway making a knocking sound when going over bumpy roads. I called my VW mechanic and he said to check the sway bushings that they are a problem on the 99.5-04 mkIV wareing fast. I got a hold of some new 25mm poly bushings and all my issues were resolved. I used some marine synthetic motor oil to lube everything up and good as gold..
