For progressive springs... Should the soft coils be on top or bottom?

For progressive springs... Should the soft coils be on top of bottom?
I keep hearing tapping noises at the back of the car around the springs area. For more info please read here
Before my springs had the soft coils facing down and I didn't hear anything. now that I have it on top and I hear noises... So i was wonderiing if that is the problem...
if anybody know please inform me? thanks.

It should not make a difference as the soft coils are helper springs only. Keeps the coil springs from seated when the shocks are fully extended.

OOppss....my mistake, I thought you were asking for a true coil-over springs like in the front. I don't think the Golf IV 2000 and later uses a true coil-over springs for the rear. Instead they have separate shock and spring with adjustable perch. I that case, I would think it makes a difference.....
