Re: for the sake of driving (AD)

Anywhere in the Santa Monica Mountains. There are endless little roads leading to and from the well known passes that offer something for everyone. I usually go all the way through to the beach, chill, then do it all over again on the way home. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif Just watch for pigs on the weekends.

Angles Crest.... but my fav now that I live in slo is hwy1 north of san simeon... except that often times it is a little crowded. I still miss the sandpeople favorite road though... it was all about spunky canyon... and dick wearing a helmet the first time he drove it.

Re: for the sake of driving (HARDCORE1.8T)

Decker Cnyn... Familiar name; in fact I did this one just last week. Came down from mulholland though. A good run (and a good way to spend $30 on race gas in one night) is to take (from LA) 10W to PCH, run up topanga to Mullholland, take Mulholland down to Decker, then from decker back to PCH, go up topanga again and hit the 101 to take you home... - by which time your turbo is white hot and about to blow. (then you run into a GS-T on the 101 and wish you had a bigger turbo) ... http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
We should get a bunch of nocturnals out together some time, I think it would be good!

Hmm. Decker Cyn. You're in my neighbourhood. Matter of fact, that's the other end of my street. Decker Cyn. becomes CA23, aka Westlake Blvd right through Thousand Oaks.
That's a damn sweet drive, but be careful out there. I have had numerous incidents up there with SUV's whose drivers don't know the width of their vehicles. Oh yeah and the mule deer and coyotes all over the place.
But it's a damn nice drive if you catch it when nobody is on it.

My favorite (especially when it's a full moon) is the stretch of PCH between Malibu canyon and Camirillo. The canyon is definatly great too. But that stretch with the hill on one side and waves crashing on the other makes me

No kidding. Its to twistie for my taste. I prefer long sweeping turns with a few tight corners!
BTW. I'm up near you. I live in Simi, Work in TO, grew up in Cam.

Re: for the sake of driving (VWCabrioDM)

VWCabrioDM,
Coming from the area, I assume you know your stuff.
what else is good out there? I've only been out twice, and Mullholland (that crazy part in the middle) and Decker so far, are the most entertaining.
I do find the lack of any barriers (less the little 2" lip that won't do much at 40mph) to catch one from falling off the edge a little intimidating, though.

Re: for the sake of driving (AD)

A few other nice bits of road:
CA 23 North, up past 118. It starts out dull, but becomes a lot more twisty after several miles.
Santa Susana Pass road in Simi/Chatsworth. It parallels CA 118. From 118 Eastbound, exit Kuehner and turn right. If you just stay on this road, it bends to the left and becomes Santa Susana Pass. SSP will drop you on CA 27, just south of CA 118. SSP is really short though, not that great. I just use it when that grade on 118 gets backed up in the morning on my way to Pasadena.
Yerba Buena Road, which connects with Mulholland pratty far north. It's VERY twisty, much like Decker Cyn. Fun, but can be really tiring after a while.

How 'bout Sunset Blvd. between the 405 and the strip. There's some great turns and fun hills. Ya gotta be super careful though 'cause there are lots of bad drivers that can't stay in their lanes.
