It would seem that, as long as you can reproduce it for them, world vw is willing to do what is needed (drop the transmission, and replace the synchros). I had it there today, and unfortunately could not get it to grind (of course not, why would it grind when I wanted it to), but they told me that if I can get it to grind again, bring it back. They were telling me they had already done this for someone (is that person here, I wonder). Just a heads up for anyone who has been looking to get this fixed.....

teh hard part is gettin it to grind for them. my dealer was the same. i went there to do the grind for them, but it didnt work so they cant fix it. it sux, i wish i knew exactly when to get it to grind.

I've had two VW's (97 GTI & 2000 Jetta) with VR6's which have done this to me and got the synchros replaced in both of them with no questions asked. I never had to go to the dealer and show them that 2nd gear grinded. Well, this is south Florida, not New Jersey.

Bump for those who may not have seen this yesterday, and something I forgot to mention. If you do have 2nd gear grind, don't bother trying to get it fixed at David Michael VW. They're not interested in fixing it at all.

hang on a second here. This 2nd gear grind you all talk about -- does it actually make a grinding noise? Because my shift sometimes gets "caught" on its way to 2nd gear, but it doesn't make any kind of noise. Someone describe this me really quickly.

It makes an actual grinding noise, pretty much the kinds of noise the transmission would be making if you tried to shift and didn't have the clutch in all the way.

this is weird
i know you all know about the second gear grind problems, but does anyone have 3rd gear grind ever? it seems often when i upshift to 3, sometimes it grinds, and i dont think its me. although, i keep telling myself im pulling out the clutch to fast. well, just wanted to see if anyone had this
