Re: for those who have or have had the z charger.... (K-FIZZEES SLCZ)

I bought mine use from Rook for a good price. I really didn't have the money but I couldn't pass up the deal!!!. I had the charger on the car for 2 months when the main turbine shaft shear and broke. I working with [email protected] and I got a replacement for it. Nik was real nice about and I ended up not getting charge because it was defect that they fixed on the assembly line. Needless to say when I got it back I realized that there was no way I could keep it. So I sold it to Brian in Pittsburg (not sure if he posts on here).
My opinion of it. Its a great unit. No tuning envolved. The wear doesn't seem to be much on the engine. If you a hands off person and want a no tuning product the z-kit is the way to go.
When I go FI again it will be turbo. The corrado won't be a daily driver then and I like the idea of tuning the car myself.
BTW my car is Dark Burgandy and just roll 78k!

'94 Corrado here. Z-Eng fall 2000. 60,000 km (40K miles) so far. Only problem is the serpentine belt skipped once, losing one of the ribs, making a racket. Still running 5K later without any problems.
And now, I got a warranty replacement, and paid for the cogged belt upgrade. If I get another 60,000 km out of this one, that'd be 120K km (~73K miles). Even if it died for good then and Z-Eng didn't give me a free replacement, I'd consider that a reasonable investment.
Power is nice, but it sounds like the new GIAC chip is worth it - I don't have it yet, but will probably get it soon..
Before everyone jumps in with "But Eurotech is better", here is why I bought Z-eng.
-Summer of 2000, it was the ONLY game in town for Corrados
-Didn't know if car would pass emissions here in Ontario WITH S/C (emissions were just introduced here, my FIRST test was 2001 - car passed, btw)
-liked the fact I could install it myself
-had heard good things from others
I don't regret my purchase.

Well theres gotta be a cheaper way to do it with it still being reliable, like ive heard a lot of guys who buy turbos dont buy the kits they go out and assemble there own, and save money that way. Like my friend go all the individual peices for his turbo (for his acura so this is a little differnet) for 1900 bucks.
What are peices you need on a super charger?

People can piece together a turbo kit because there are a lot more parts needed.
If you want to piece together a super charger, you are going to have to buy a super charger from somewhere, and that is the most expensive part of the whole deal. Everything else is practically chump change comparitively speaking.

Re: for those who have or have had the z charger.... (nemoest)

I suppose you can salvage a charger from some other car (maybe even a G60?) but what about relieability? what about fueling? Come on guys, the main reason for the "high" cost of a supecharger is not the parts but the engineering and development time invested by the company. I don't know about the others, but it has taken Z years to perfect their system.
let's say that by some miracle it only takes you 100 hours (less than two weeks) to really get a system working right.... how much is your time worth? even if you only pay yourself $25/hr, that is already $2.5K

Unfortunately if you want to go fast you have to be willing to pay for it. Save the money you'd spend on exhausts, manifolds, mooroofs, stereos, intakes and other crap that doesn't do anything and buy yourself a decent kit.

True, but theres somthing that seems so amateur about jsut buying a super kit and slapping i on a stock vr6, i dunno for me it jsut wouldnt feel complete, and it wouldnt feel custom enough for me. So i guess thats why i asked if you could save money or buy it individually, not too cut out Z but to add your own character to it. and maybe ust maybe im full of sh1t

custom, shustom! I'm sure you could paint it with pretty colors and make it look different

All I personally care about is the end results. my next step is stage II with DSR256 cams.

Hows yours been working out for you fast eddie?
is it really the money pit from hell? or is that jsut cause it is a corrado, have you had to get a LSP and new clutch and such, i know i would probley get one anywyas if i went for a SC but does the Z eng system make them a necessaty?

the only thing new you HAVE to get is a new motor mount (I just bought the Turn2). Otherwise the clutch and differential are options. Instead I would make sure you get a decent suspension setup, bigger wheels and good brakes. Unless you really abuse the clutch you should not need a new one.
Oh yeah, it is the money pit from hell just because it is a corrado --'nuff said
