Curious if anyone else has noticed this. Virtually every Ford Edge I see in this body style (1st gen ford edge, 2006-2014) has the blue paint/sticker on the front Ford grill badge peeled off or completely missing. Its like the camry dent of the Ford Edge.

Yup, only really notice it on Edges. Our 2008 Escape did it as well. I had to order a new badge for it. Not sure if was OEM badge though.

BMW and Saab badges eventually do the same thing.

This was the era when Ford was trying to be more Euro, after all.

Speaking of crappy ford quality, EVER SINGLE third generation Explorer that I’ve seen on the road has the plastic panel below the rear glass cracked.

You still see third-gen Explorers on the road?

i think the bmw issue was badges being stolen or fallen off and then replaced with low quality off brand ones that peel and fade. all of my bmw's with factory badges are in ok-great shape. the worst being my 76 bmw but thats had 56 years to fade out

I almost made this exact thread the other day when I saw multiple Fords on a single trip with their badges faded to nothing but chrome. What’s up with that?
so that car in the picture i posted is my neighbors car. I always see similar cars with the faded emblem thinking it is my neighbor, and its NEVER them lol.

Pretty much every Ford badge made in the past 15-20 years peels off. More noticeable on Ford trucks since they have larger grilles/badges. Rear tailgate badges on F150s/Expeditions peel like crazy too.

Wanna talk about getting the basics wrong, lets talk about the Achilles heel of the GMT800, the tailgate handle. I remember back at my first job, we had a Silverado shop truck and the handle broke. My boss figured it would be quicker and easier just to get a new gate for the truck, which was white. It happened to be a maroon tailgate, and for context - I was working in Austin, TX (UT territory) and their rivals (and my boss' alma mater) is OU. So the white and maroon did not sit well with the sales staff, who were mostly UT fans.

Technically it could have also been A&M colors, but I think the sales guys just wanted something to b*tch about.

Modding opportunity!

I remember painting Ford badges red was a thing on the sport compact Ford scene for a couple minutes in the early 2000’s. (Eg us teens who wanted a Civic SI but inherited an escort, probe or contour from their parents)

As a huge Subaru fan with an F150 on order, maybe I'd be better off replacing the Ford emblems with Subaru emblems. 😆

Man, as someone who inherited a 1996 Ford Contour as their first car, this comment brought back a wave of nostalgia. I hated that car at the time, but in retrospect, the 2.5 DOHC motor made it a great little car. Except, of course, for those goddamn cup holders that broke in like 2000 and I never thought to fix because they were so freaking fragile. :D

IIRC, this is because in an effort to be more environmentally friendly, they switched the paint for the badges from solvent-based to water-based. I think the first generation of the water-based paint wasn't as durable.
