hey everyone
here's my story: went on down to the dealer tonight to go and put a deposit on gti de - done. but while i was there the salesman was trying to find out some info for me. he had said the vwvortex had most of he info, but, and this is new infohe said that he found out earlier this afternoon: vw has released order codes to dealers ( so they can order the cars). there might be a slight chance we will be getting 17's instead of 18's and for the the northeast and we may only be getting about a hundred cars in this area. i have bought 4 vw's from this dealer and they are pretty straight forward. he said that the info he had was pretty concreate but he didn't say it ws definate.
he did have an interesting thing to add about internet purchasing and the gti's; and that was how luke-warn the vapor blue and the yellowed colored bettle went over. he had said that the response wasn't so good. but then again who knows, this is a gti and it has a long list of enthusiasts behind it.
hope that helps. if i were to add my own comments on the situation: i guess it would be put a deposit on the car and if the internet purchasing comes through get your money back.

Dealers have gotten no info yet. At least the one I sell for hasn't.

When I went to put a deposit down, the dealer got a code from his "supplier"(lack of a better word) and place a special order with him. So they can get the info, I guess they just have to know the right people.

No, they can't order anything. We just got a fax today saying that no orders of any kind can be made. The order process is going to take place over the internet. This fax is the first piece of info from VWoA that we've seen so far, BTW.

I just spoke to our rep... we should be getting maybe 3 definitely 2.

This is from the standpoint my GM has. Other dealers could be getting different info. I don't know why, but they could. I pretty much told you all I know. No special orders, but I guess putting down some $$$ would up to the GM of the dealership.

this sounds strange to some extent considering that the dealer at which i deposited said he "ordered" my car at the beginning of the week...he said he would be getting at least the 2 that had deposits, and possibly 1 or 2 more...

Sounds like your dealership is not the right one to go to if you are looking for a car. period

I work at a dealership as well and they are discussing the option of selling the DE's directly through VW.com, like the special color beetles, but taking it a step further... meaning you would have to put down a deposit and fill out a credit app. Then they would redirect the car to a dealer of your choice. Technically, dealers can "order" the DE's because we have the model codes.... but if VWoA sells them through vw.com these dealers would never see their orders and the customer who leaves the deposit at the dealership would still have to go through vw.com...
